Chapter 4 - Rejection before rejection

The kitchen was as silent as the graveyard. The cold she loves did nothing to soothe her burns.

"I am going to be ok. It's nothing." She told herself again and again like a broken radio. She filled a glass with water.

The coldness of the water felt nice. She looked at the moon. It's really bright tonight. She smiled, it didn't have any happiness in it.

Her wishes really has no meaning in the eyes of the moon goddess. She wanted to complain but she's too tired. What would she ask?

"Why did you not accept my prayers?" The moon goddess wasn't obligated to.

She's afraid of wishing for something again. All of her wishes backfired. It's as if the entire universe is against her happiness.

She remembered the first prayer she made. She asked for her family to be always happy, if fell apart. Or at least, she was pushed away.

There was a time when she wanted a loving mate. The moon goddess paired her with a future Alpha.

"Why would the future Alpha of a strong pack want someone like her? A wolfless omega?" She almost laughed at the irony. She closed her eyes, trying to breathe in as much cold air as possible.

She felt calmer. Stress of the whole day was slowly leaving her mind.

But her peace didn't last long.

"Babe~"

The voice was familiar. It's soft and seductive, as if inviting the other person to listen to them the entire day.

It's her.

Amethyst didn't want to be in the same room as her. She quickly puts down the glass, ready to leave.

But the next person's voice stopped her on her tracks. It was cold yet it didn't carry the usual coldness. Compared to how he talks to her now, it seemed pretty tolerant.

"Why did he change so much?"

The voice of the younger Evren echoed in her mind.

"Amethyst, don't be afraid of anything. I'll always be by your side to protect you. All you have to do is enjoy your life." He's her best friend. Her knight in shining armor.

Now, he won't even try to protect her. She was grieving the past that could have turned into something beautiful and the future that might never happen.

"So, that's how he talks to others. I always got asked to get lost," she thought.

"Not now, Stella."

"But babe, I only got to see you now. I missed you so much throughout the entire day. Where were you?" Her voice was full of complaints.

It didn't carry any hint of fear. She knew that he wasn't going to hurt her.

She felt like she was close enough to complain. What a beautiful bond they shared!

She felt like a fool for feeling envious. He's her mate, after all.

Her heart, it was aching and she could do nothing to stop it.

Was there any remedy for heartache?

She couldn't help but wonder how it would feel to hear her name from his lips again?

Will it be full of hatred? Care? Love?

She almost laughed at herself. She hated how desperate she was sounding.

He was hers. Her boyfriend. She wanted to kill herself for having such thoughts about someone else's boyfriend.

How could she? She couldn't force him to accept her just because the moon goddess has tied their fates together.

"But you have loved him since the first time you saw him. He wasn't her boyfriend back then," something inside of her argued. She didn't bother replying back.

"I was out. I want to sleep. Can you leave now please?" He was calm and patient.

"Babe, you know how my parents are, right? They want us to be official," She said with a pout.

His eyes looked here and there, they stopped at the kitchen door for a second.

Her heartbeats quickened.

"Ok." He said all of a sudden.

Unknown to everyone, his hands were in a fist and they were shaking.

Her world stopped for a second.

Tears won't stop flowing from her eyes. She was confused whether it was her tears or blood that was coming out.

Her last hope faded away. He wasn't going to be hers and it was decided. Despite telling herself that he was never going to be hers, deep inside, she did hope for him to accept her.

But he said ok so quickly. No hesitation. No second thoughts.

How could he? Even after knowing that she's his mate? Was she that insignificant?

"Yes! I knew it. You are never going to say no to me. When are we going to have the wedding?" Her smile was so big that her face almost felt small.

She's adorable.

Big-hazel-brown eyes. Pouty lips. Light-brown-luscious hair. The perfect figure.

The beta's only daughter.

Why won't he marry her? Stella's perfect. She never felt so insecure about her looks before, not even when everyone would bully her for being chubby.

"No wedding for now. We are going to have an engagement first."

"That works for me too! We are still young. We can get married whenever we want. I can't explain how happy I am!" She jumped right into his arms, her happiness could be felt from miles away.

She never liked Stella. She's the person who has bullied her the most but at that moment, she couldn't help but feel happy for her.

She was finally going to marry the person she loves. She looked full of happiness, glowing like the sun.

Evren's face was devoid of any expression. It's almost as if he's a puppet.

She leaned towards his face but he looked away. Exhaustion was written all over his face. Hesitation and something else was there but everyone else was too busy to notice his eyes.

"I am tired, Stella. I am going to sleep." He gently pulled her away. Stella didn't seem to mind. As if she's used to it already.

Love was never at the central point of Amethyst's life but nothing has ever hurt her as much as this. It's like her final rejection.
