Chapter 36 - Entering the Land of Rain

[Inventory: Kunai (45), Explosive Tags (53), Shuriken (99), Steel Wire (15), Fuma Shuriken (5)…]

He'd never fought such a wealthy battle before.

If Hiruko hadn't stopped him, he could've taken even more.

"It's just missing shields, spiked clubs, three-section staves…" Hyuga Arin muttered dissatisfiedly.

"What else do you want? Should I give you my commander's seat too?" Hiruko snapped, completely unable to maintain his composed persona anymore.

Losing that many supplies had a huge impact on him.

"That's not impossible," Hyuga Arin muttered under his breath.

"Get lost!!" Hiruko roared.

Grabbing Hyuga Arin by the back of his collar, he dragged him straight out of the supply tent.

Letting this guy into the armory was like letting a rat loose in a grain warehouse.

No wonder he didn't want to watch him pack.

Was that ninja pouch some kind of special ninja tool? How could it hold so much?!

Dragging him all the way to the camp gate, Hiruko took out a scroll and tossed it to Hyuga Arin.

"This is Konoha's summoning scroll. If you obtain any intel, use summoning to send it back."

"I'll maintain one-way contact with you."

Right now, he just wanted to throw Hyuga Arin out as fast as possible. He didn't want to see him again.

"Got it, got it," Hyuga Arin replied perfunctorily, opening the summoning scroll.

Inside was the summoning Technique diagram. Hyuga Arin said quietly,

"Sensei, I don't actually know summoning Technique yet."

The Ninja Academy didn't teach this stuff.

Hiruko frowned. "Didn't Tsunade teach you?"

Tsunade had only taught him medical ninTechnique—nothing else.

Hyuga Arin looked at Hiruko with an unreadable gaze.

Hiruko rubbed his temples. "Fine. I'll teach you now."

Summoning Technique wasn't particularly difficult.

"Hand seals are: Boar–Dog–Rooster–Monkey–Ram. Chakra circulation…"

Hiruko explained the entire method in detail.

"You can practice it more. I'm your teacher anyway—I won't mind if you summon some random junk."

Hyuga Arin nodded seriously. By his understanding, summoning Technique really wasn't hard.

C-rank ninTechnique were generally easy to master.

"But without a proper summoning contract, never use summoning Technique casually," Hiruko warned sternly.

"Otherwise, you might summon an uncontrollable summoning beast—or even get transported to an unknown location."

Hyuga Arin fell into thought.

So… random monster spawn, or random dungeon?

Sounds kind of interesting.

Seeing Hyuga Arin zoning out, Hiruko instantly regretted agreeing to Tsunade's request.

No—

From the moment Hyuga Arin started looting the armory, he'd already regretted it!!

"Alright, get going and do your mission."

Hiruko shoved Hyuga Arin out of the camp, his face full of barely concealed disgust.

Hyuga Arin flipped and landed lightly on the ground, muttering as he looked toward the Land of Rain border.

"You still haven't told me how to actually enter Amegakure."

Before Hyuga Arin could turn back, Hiruko came out again.

"Sensei, are you coming with me as an undercover agent?" Hyuga Arin asked in surprise.

Can you think of something good for once?! Hiruko cursed inwardly.

Ever since meeting Hyuga Arin, nothing good had happened.

"I'm helping you solve your identity problem first."

He'd been angry earlier—sending Hyuga Arin alone into the Land of Rain wouldn't even get him in contact with Amegakure ninja.

The Land of Rain

A country perpetually shrouded in rain.

Only a few days each week would the clouds finally disperse.

The Land of Rain had long been plagued by civil war.

War, disease, famine, death—

it was as if every misfortune in the world gathered here.

Some even called it a place untouched by sunlight.

Yet as the outside world slid closer to chaos, the Land of Rain's constant internal conflict strangely came to a halt.

The entire country fell into an eerie silence—

like the calm before a storm.

Hyuga Arin and Hiruko had altered their appearances and were walking through a city in the Land of Rain.

The city roads were all dirt paths. With the constant rainfall, the ground was soft—each step sinking into a small pit.

"Sensei, where are we going?" Hyuga Arin swept his gaze across the surroundings.

The Land of Rain was completely different from the Land of Fire.

At the very least, cities in the Land of Fire didn't have people barely clothed.

Here, it seemed normal.

Many wore patched clothing, others wore ill-fitting garments.

The clothes Hyuga Arin and Hiruko wore were full of patches as well—but by local standards, they actually looked relatively well-off.

Hiruko scanned the surroundings. "Obviously, to draw out the Amegakure ninja."

He didn't see a single ninja anywhere.

The two of them had entered openly through the Land of Rain border.

With such an obvious trail, if Amegakure knew, they would've investigated immediately.

Yet—nothing.

"These people really know how to keep their heads down," Hiruko sighed.

Such neglect of border control, such complete indifference to foreign ninja entering their territory—

it was as if they had no intention of protecting their own country at all.

Foreign ninja—especially rogue ninja—could easily cause massive chaos.

The Land of Fire also had rogue ninja roaming about, but would any of them dare let Konoha catch wind of their movements?

Absolutely not.

They'd be extremely cautious.

That was the deterrence of a great ninja village.

But the Land of Rain… was completely undefended.

"Use your Byakugan and check if there are any ninja nearby," Hiruko said, giving up on passive baiting.

"Byakugan!"

A flash of silver light passed through Hyuga Arin's disguised pupils.

Hiruko glanced at him curiously. "Your Transformation Technique is pretty good."

Normally, transformation would collapse once a ninTechnique was used.

But Hyuga Arin hadn't reverted.

Hyuga Arin ignored him, his gaze sweeping rapidly around before pointing toward two buildings near the city entrance.

"There are chakra fluctuations in both spots—genin-level."

Hiruko looked toward the two three-story buildings.

From there, the city entrance was clearly visible.

And from such a distance, without sensory ninja, detecting them would be extremely difficult.

"Looks like they're Amegakure," Hiruko nodded in realization.

So they hadn't completely abandoned vigilance—just monitoring quietly without acting.

"Move!"

The two figures vanished instantly.

Mu Yu sat by the window, his eyes covertly scanning the city entrance.

Calling it an entrance was generous—just a wall built from stacked stone blocks.

Everyone who entered or left had to be recorded by him.

"When will this ever end…" Mu Yu sighed helplessly.

He'd thought that with the civil war ending, peace would finally come to the Land of Rain.

But Amegakure's current policy was to go completely dark—

no missions, no exposure, no outside contact.

He'd heard that tensions abroad were rising, but what did that have to do with the Land of Rain?

He didn't understand.

Suddenly, pain shot through his neck.

He turned his head in confusion—

and saw two figures inside the room.

When did they get in?

With that question lingering in his mind, Mu Yu fell into deep darkness.
