The other guy:
Setting: Late evening. Their shared apartment. Jay's on a video call with an old friend from London — a guy. Keifer walks in halfway through.
Keifer steps out of his room, water bottle in hand, hoodie half-zipped. He wasn't planning to say anything. Just pass by. But then he hears her laugh — soft, different — and pauses.
Jay's sitting cross-legged on the couch, phone propped up, a British guy smiling through the screen. She's laughing at something he said, the kind of laugh Keifer's never gotten out of her. Not ever.
"Okay shut up nate" Jay says, swatting at the air like he's right in front of her.
"You still owe me coffe remember "
"When your back in london,i will take you one a date promise" the guy teases.
Keifer freezes.
A date?
London guy?
They do this often?
Jay's smiling. Blushing, even. She hasn't noticed him standing there.
"Deal" she says softly.
Keifer clears his throat — loud enough to break the moment.
Jay startles and turns. "What do you want?"
He shrugs, avoiding her gaze. "Nothing. Just didn't know we had guests. Thought this was our shared space."
She narrows her eyes. "It's a video call, not a house party."
He mumbles something like "Could've fooled me" and walks to the kitchen, pretending to grab a snack.
But he's not hungry. He's just… annoyed.
And he doesn't know why.
Maybe it's the way she smiled. Or the way she didn't smile like that at him.
Maybe it's the word "date."
Or maybe… it's that he cares. And that's the scariest part.
Jay's pov :
After the call:
Why was he acting like that? He didnt say much.he didnt have to.it was something in his voice.or the way he didn't meet my eyes.
He seemed... Hurt?
No why would that be doesnt even like?
Right?
