Chapter 5 - THE DARING MAID

"Your services are unfortunately not needed in the mansion anymore. You can leave." Lucien Voss added waving his hands as he calmly walked back to his chair.

Elise's heart immediately sank. Did her new boss just do what she thought he did? Did he fire her?

Was he mad she had almost touched the stuffed duck?

No. No, she couldn't allow it. She had nowhere else to go. If she goes back to her father's mansion no one knows what her sisters would do to her this time. Elise clapped her hands together and fell on her knees.

"Please Mr Lucien, don't do this to me," Elise said with teary eyes. She was desperate now.

"I... I have nowhere else to go." She said amidst the strange pull she felt between her legs.

"You can easily go back to where you came from," Lucien said as a matter of factly taking a sip of his coffee. She couldn't have crawled from the ground or from hell. She definitely came from a house.

"I... I can't Mr Voss. I... I'll die if I go back."

"Isn't that the sweetest thing?" He smiled a little as he stared at her briefly before returning to his system.

Death was really the sweetest thing to him. If only this little woman knew the number of people who wished to die out of their misery. He took another sip of the coffee letting the bitter taste linger longer in his mouth.

It actually tasted great. For some reason, this maid seemed to know how to make his coffee just how he liked it.

But he couldn't let her stay. His assistant was already distracted by her. He didn't want any love bond, or marriages, or babies...

"I... I'm so good at being a maid master." Elise tried to present herself as John had asked but even she could tell she was bad at it.

She pressed further, "I cook, I clean, I wash." She counted the words with her fingers. "I will do anything you ask. Please don't send me away." She pleaded.

"When you came, I'm sure you had seen more than enough maids around." She nodded gently at his words.

Lucien was a man of few words, he couldn't believe anyone was making him talk more than he usually did.

"Good. Now leave." He said with finality.

"I have no use for you, and do send an invitation to your burial before you die. I love attending funerals." He smiled.

Elise rose, her heart racing so fast. If he loved death, she didn't. She had always wanted to live not die. Unfortunately, she was in this kind of situation. Why wouldn't the stars grant him his wish and let her live instead?

Elise walked to the door and paused. "Those maids." She turned to look at him. "Can they make your coffee as much as I do?"

"You want me to employ you because you make coffee?" Lucien asked.

"You may not value your life Mr Voss, but I do. I want to live. All I'm saying is, there must be something I can do that'll make me stay."

Lucien stared at the girl quietly.

"Can you fuck?" Elise froze at his sudden question. There was not an ounce of a joke on his face. He looked serious, too serious.

"I thought so. Now leave." Lucien said.

"I... I can." Elise said desperately.

"When do you want to?" She added wiping sweat from her face taking Lucien by surprise and he narrowed his eyes at her.

Lucien Voss did not expect her to accept his words.

He had meant to scare her. To disgust her. To make her leave on her own. Good girls never accept such abomination, but this one was different.

Why the hell would he ever touch his maid? That's gross.

"Get out," he said coldly, already turning back to his laptop, fingers moving across the keyboard as if she were no longer there.

Elise didn't move.

Her heart pounded painfully against her ribs. He had asked her a question and she answered honestly so why was he backing out now?

Having sex with a complete stranger to her was way better than going back to a family that wanted to harvest her remaining kidney. As long as she had a roof over her head and food to eat. And no one was coming to kill her.

She wasn't cheap. She wasn't foolish.

But she was dying...

And one of her dying wishes was to have a boyfriend to experience love with. But life had been too cruel to her.

Staring at Lucien, an idea immediately popped into her head and she asked.

"Sir… may I ask you something?"

He didn't look up. "If it's unnecessary, no. I already dismissed you." Came his voice.

Lucien didn't expect to be played at his own game today by this... Little daring girl.

Elise hesitated. She bit on her lower lip hard, before shooting her question.

"Do you love?"

The question landed wrong.

Lucien's fingers stopped moving on his system and slowly, he finally turned to look at her.

"What?"

Elise stood a few steps away, hands folded in front of her like she was bracing herself for a blow. Her clothes were still his, too large, swallowing her whole. She looked smaller than ever before his eyes.

She hadn't meant to offend him, she was shocked herself that she had asked him something like that. But since he wouldn't want her as his maid, she could be his girlfriend.

"I mean," she said quickly, voice trembling just a little, "do you believe in it? Love."

Lucien laughed once. A dry humorless laugh.

"No." He said immediately wondering why his maid was suddenly interested in that. Why the hell would he believe in what he hated more than anything?

He saw her smile.

"That's good." Came her dull response. He was perfect for her. She knew she wanted a man who would love her and be loved by her, but right now anything would go. She had little time to experience love and to give love.

She could give out love. Who cares if he reciprocated it or not? Maybe in this life, no one is meant to love her.

"Mr Lucien since I'm not qualified to be your maid. Will you be my boyfriend?"

There was total silence in the dining room. Lucien stared at her as if she had lost her mind.

What a daring little mouse. The nerve to even ask him out. Had he been too lenient with her?

Lucien picked up his cup of coffee and placed it to his lips, only to spit it back into the cup. It now tasted bad in his mouth.

He should have known this girl was like the others. First, they pretend like they like his assistant. But it's all a ploy to get close to him.

"John," Lucien called and his assistant stepped in immediately.

"Get her out of here." He said coldly and John bowed.

"Miss Elise." John gestured to the door. Confused Elise stared between John and Lucien panic-stricken.

No, sending her out was an automatic death sentence. She really had nowhere else to go.

"Please. Please I'm sorry." Elise cried out but Lucien didn't even bother to look at her.

"Please come with me," John said and led her out.
