"Roar!"
The Rhyhorn cried out in pain, letting out a roar.
It stared intently at the Snivy in front, seemingly disbelieving, then pawed the ground with its hind hooves again before charging fiercely towards the Snivy.
Facing the attack from this large Pokémon, Snivy showed no panic; it stood calmly and composedly, controlling its two Vine Whips to flank the Rhyhorn from both sides.
The tough Vine Whips wrapped around Rhyhorn's limbs, tripping it directly to the ground, causing it to stumble.
This time, Rhyhorn seemed to realize the disparity between itself and its opponent.
It turned and ran, quickly disappearing into the grassland.
Draconis: "..."
It ran away... Rhyhorn, a Ground and Rock-type Pokémon, is very strong but not very smart.
Draconis didn't pay too much attention to this reckless Rhyhorn.
After repelling it, he turned his attention back to the wild Pokémon around him.
Budew, a Grass-type Pokémon, though it looks cute and harmless, actually has pollen that carries toxins, which can cause symptoms like sneezing and a runny nose.
This Budew seemed a bit timid; upon seeing them approach, it immediately panicked and hid in the grass.
Seeing this, Draconis squatted down, took a Berry from his bag, and held it out to the Budew.
"Budew, come, eat!"
The Budew in front cautiously opened its eyes. It stared blankly at the Berry, then looked with disbelief at the human holding the Berry.
Draconis smiled slightly at it.
Seemingly sensing no malice from the other party, Budew quickly relaxed its guard and happily enjoyed the Berry.
Draconis took the opportunity to reach out and pat the Budew's head.
"So cute!"
Seeing the Rhyhorn run away, the Deerling that had fled earlier returned.
They gathered around Draconis and Budew, looking over with their curious eyes.
Draconis couldn't resist and gave out a few more Berries.
These Deerling also happily enjoyed the Berries along with Budew.
After eating, the Deerling once again cast their gaze towards the package on Draconis's back, their eyes revealing an expression of longing.
"There are no more!" Draconis quickly shielded his package; there were still a few Berries inside that he had saved to attract Mareep.
Seeing this, the Deerling snorted, then nimbly bounced and hopped away.
Continuing onward, Draconis saw a herd of Zebstrika galloping across the grassland.
However, these Pokémon are temperamental and aggressive; if they approached rashly, they would surely be attacked by this herd of Zebstrika.
With the strength of Snivy and Dratini, they were probably not a match for the Zebstrika, so Draconis deliberately bypassed the Zebstrika's habitat.
He looked at the map of the Mareep habitat recorded in Christina's notebook and proceeded along the route indicated.
Soon, Draconis saw a fluffy flock of Mareep on a fertile green pasture not far away.
It's them!
Draconis slowly approached the Mareep flock with Dratini and Snivy.
When they approached the Mareep flock to a certain distance, the Mareep that were eating grass finally noticed the three of them.
"Mareep?"
The several Mareep at the front looked over with some confusion.
But they did not run away.
"Ahem!" Draconis cleared his throat, trying his best to make his tone sound non-malicious: "Hello, Mareep!"
"Mareep?"
Question marks appeared above the Mareep's heads. What did this person want?
"So cute!"
Draconis slowly approached, observing the real-life Mareep closely, and couldn't help but be charmed by their soft and adorable appearance.
Seemingly not sensing any malice from this human, the Mareep gradually relaxed. Hearing Draconis praise their cuteness, some of the Mareep even showed happy expressions on their faces.
"Mareep~!"
"Right, this is a gift I brought for you all on this trip." Draconis took out the pre-prepared Sitrus Berries from his bag.
Upon hearing this, the Mareep immediately gathered around, surrounding Draconis, Snivy, and Dratini.
Draconis glanced around; there were about seven or eight Mareep here. Fortunately, he had brought nearly twenty Berries, and after feeding Budew and Deerling earlier, there were still a dozen left.
Enough!
The Mareep lowered their heads, sniffed the Berries, and then happily began to chew them loudly.
Although they preferred fresh and delicious green grass, an occasional change of flavor felt pretty good too!
While the Mareep were eating, Draconis carefully extended his hand.
However, as soon as he touched the fluffy wool on a Mareep's body, he immediately felt a pain in his palm, as if he had been hit by an electric current.
"Mareep indeed have electricity on their bodies..." Draconis muttered to himself.
Fortunately, this current was not strong enough to harm the toucher.
The Mareep quickly finished the Berries in front of them. They all turned their gaze to this strange fellow who had given them Berries.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mareep." Draconis introduced himself: "My name is Draconis, and I am the lord of the territory across the river. I hope for your continued support in the future."
"Mareep?"
The Mareep, however, didn't quite understand what 'territory' or 'lord' meant.
"In a while, we will come to this side of the river. At that time, we will plant fresh and delicious pasture grass on the open ground by the river. If you are hungry, you can go there; we welcome your arrival at any time," Draconis added.
The Mareep understood this part of the conversation.
This human named Draconis planned to plant fresh and delicious pasture grass there and even intended to invite them to enjoy it!
Was there such a good thing in the world?
The Mareep opened their eyes wide in surprise.
However, the human in front of them did not explain further. He simply stood up, bid them farewell, and then left with the two Pokémon.
Draconis's purpose in coming this time was just to make early contact with the Mareep, to see if he could build a good relationship with them. Once the ranch was built, these Mareep could move in directly.
So far, the plan seemed to be going smoothly.
Draconis was about to head back, but just then, Dratini suddenly seemed to discover something and looked up at the sky.
"Woo?"
Draconis followed its gaze, and the next second, he saw a strange Pokémon flying across the sky above.
It was a Pokémon with a brownish-gray body, a long neck, thick limbs, and a resemblance to a palm tree.
Its massive body was surrounded by many large leaves, and on its back, it even had four huge wings like palm leaves.
The most striking feature was the string of banana-like yellow Berries hanging from its lower jaw.
That Pokémon was... Tropius!
