Prologue

1784

The golden round moon emitted soft light as clouds passed by, the trees creaked and swayed in the breeze, their branches like skeletal fingers reaching up towards the sky.

It was like any other night for the villagers who lived in Grevile , a small village surrounded by forests , separating them from the capital city of Kingstorm.

Lamps and lanterns were lit around the houses while the forest had turned dark after dusk. At the backyard of one of these houses, A little girl of age eight lived with her aunt and uncle, who was now playing with sticks and dolls. Her distinct shiny hair bounced gracefully under the moonlight as she played. She was gathering more sticks to play with when she spotted a white furry rabbit trying to find a hole to stay.

She had often seen the little furred animals hopping in the forest but had never seen them up close. Curiously, she moved quietly to the animal while hoping it did not hop away, but it was as if luck was against her as she tripped on a small stone and fell with a soft thud.

The rabbit frightened by the noise, hopped away. However the little girl wanting to have a rabbit as a pet chased after the rabbit without realizing she was going deep in the forest . When she didn't catch sight of the animal, she turned around to observe her surroundings only for her to realize that she was in the middle of nowhere.

"Aunt!" The little girl called with little panic in her small voice, now scared she searched frantically for any possible exit. Soon she found a path and started walking as fast as she could to find her way home before her aunt and uncle found out she was missing. She had walked halfway when she sensed something amiss. This was not the path home! If she wasn't scared before, she was now.

"Aunt!" "Uncle!" "Is anyone here?" The little girl asked with tears already brewing in her eyes. She was scared. There had been recent rumors of shadowed creatures also known as vampires lurking in the forest and killing innocent villagers. About four children were missing in the village and the village magistrate had warned the villagers not to go deep in the forest at night to avoid being killed or abducted by the shadowed creatures. The little girl hoped that she got home safely and that someone heard her . And someone did.

"How did you get here ,little girl?" A smooth but eerie voice asked. The little girl looked around trying to find where the voice came from till her eyes landed on a woman in black robes crouching on a tall tree. The woman jumped down and landed smoothly on the ground.

"My name is Eve and I'm from this village, I got lost trying to chase a rabbit I found at my backyard. Please could you take me to the entrance of the forest so I can go home to meet my aunt before she gets worried? Kind La…. "Wait! The woman did not look like a lady. The little girl observed the woman while sensing something not right. The woman had very fair skin and could be mistaken for a high standing noble if not for her almost tattered black robes and her hungry green snake eyes. Something rustled behind the woman back and the little girl eyes widened. Was that WINGS?!! The woman had bat like wings!!!! "This woman is not human" the girl said to herself while her eyes nervously looked around trying to find a nearest place to run to.

"What were you saying, little girl" the eerie woman said as she moved closer to the frightened girl "My name is Lilith and I know your aunt, come here let me you to her, don't be scared ." She said as her green eyes turned brighter, like a starving predator who finally caught sight of a scared prey. She focused on the girl's scared face while she failed to notice a pointed stick the girl held in her hand. As the moved closer hoping to catch hold of the girl's hand, the girl rammed the pointed stick into the woman cheek making the woman scream in pain and giving the girl enough time for the girl to run away.

" Arghh you little witch" the woman screamed angrily while holding her bloodied face watching the girl running in the opposite direction from which she had come. She would catch the girl later, after all she was a little human who didn't know her way around the forest , now she needed to heal herself. Even though she was a vile woman, she treasured her face more than anything else.
