Chapter 82 - The mountain of echoes

🌌 SEASON 4 — EPISODE 9

THE MOUNTAIN OF ECHOES

Opening — The Road Ahead

Morning.

The snow has stopped.

Aeryx stands outside Elara's house, tightening the straps of his bag.

Mira's pendant hangs around his neck.

Her notebook rests safely inside his jacket.

Raven walks out carrying two bags.

She looks at him.

Raven:

"You're carrying too much."

Aeryx:

"I'm carrying a notebook."

Raven points at his swords.

Raven:

"And three swords."

Aeryx looks down at them.

Aeryx:

"Those are important."

Raven sighs.

Raven:

"Of course they are."

Aeryx looks toward the distant mountains.

For years, he had searched for answers about the night his family was destroyed.

Now, for the first time, he has something different.

A direction.

And somewhere along that road—

his sister.

---

Scene 1 — The Trail

The mountain path winds between snow-covered trees.

Raven walks ahead while Aeryx studies Mira's notebook.

Names.

Locations.

Dates.

The same golden sun appears beside several entries.

Aeryx stops.

Aeryx:

"She wasn't travelling randomly."

Raven turns.

Raven:

"You figured that out from a notebook full of scribbles?"

Aeryx:

"These locations form a route."

He traces the markings.

Every location leads farther north.

Toward Sunwatch Peak.

Aeryx:

"She was looking for something."

Raven:

"Something worth spending three years looking for?"

Aeryx closes the notebook.

Aeryx:

"Knowing Mira?"

He starts walking.

Aeryx:

"Probably."

---

Scene 2 — The Warning

By evening, they reach an abandoned shelter.

Someone has used it recently.

Raven examines the cold fire pit.

Aeryx discovers a strip of white cloth caught between two stones.

A golden sun is stitched into it.

He recognizes the symbol immediately.

Mira.

He folds the cloth and puts it away.

That night, while studying her notebook, he discovers a loose page.

The handwriting is different.

One sentence.

"If she reaches the observatory, do not follow her."

Raven reads it twice.

Raven:

"Whoever wrote that knew where she was going."

Aeryx:

"Yes."

Raven:

"And they didn't want her getting there."

Aeryx examines the page.

A second symbol has been pressed into the paper.

A sun crossed by a dark line.

He closes the notebook.

Aeryx:

"Then we'd better find out why."

---

Scene 3 — Sunwatch Peak

The following morning.

The clouds part.

An ancient observatory stands above the mountain ridge.

Broken towers emerge from the snow. Stone bridges connect structures carved directly into the mountainside.

The place looks abandoned.

But Aeryx notices something.

The snow near the entrance has been disturbed.

Someone has passed through recently.

He approaches the stone doors.

Three symbols are carved into the surface.

A sword.

A shadow.

A circle of light.

Aeryx presses Mira's pendant against the third symbol.

A golden line illuminates the carving.

The doors begin to open.

Raven stares.

Raven:

"Your family really did leave you some interesting things."

Aeryx:

"Apparently."

They enter.

Inside, the observatory is almost empty.

Shelves have been cleared.

Records have been removed.

Ancient instruments lie broken across the floor.

Someone has deliberately stripped the place of its knowledge.

Then Aeryx discovers a map.

Dozens of locations cover its surface.

Several match the places in Mira's notebook.

One location, far to the north, has been circled repeatedly.

Beneath it, written in Mira's handwriting, are six words.

"The records were never the answer."

Aeryx studies the map.

Aeryx:

"She found something."

Raven:

"And whatever it was, she kept moving."

Aeryx folds the map.

Aeryx:

"Then so will we."

---

Scene 4 — Somewhere Beyond the Mountains

Night.

An abandoned settlement lies beneath a dark sky.

Broken houses.

Empty streets.

A handful of villagers huddle behind a damaged stone wall.

Something moves between the ruins.

A creature emerges.

Its body is covered in dark plates, and its long limbs scrape against the frozen ground.

The villagers retreat.

One man tries to hold a wooden spear with trembling hands.

The creature turns toward him.

Then—

FOOTSTEPS.

Someone walks down the ruined street.

Unhurried.

The villagers look up.

A young woman approaches the creature.

A travel-worn cloak hangs from her shoulders.

Her expression is unreadable.

The creature turns.

It growls.

She stops a few steps away.

Mira:

"Move."

The creature lowers its head.

She waits.

It doesn't move.

Her eyes narrow slightly.

Mira:

"I won't ask again."

The creature lunges.

Mira raises her hand.

And—

FLASH.

---

Scene 5 — Three Years Earlier

Snow.

A younger Mira stands alone in a narrow mountain pass.

Her clothes are torn from travelling.

Her breathing is uneven.

A monster approaches from between the trees.

She raises both hands.

Golden light gathers around her.

But it flickers wildly.

It spreads across her arms, breaks apart, then gathers again.

She struggles to hold it together.

Young Mira:

"Stay back!"

The monster charges.

Mira releases the energy.

The blast tears across the snow.

It misses.

The impact shatters a nearby rock, but the creature keeps coming.

Mira stumbles.

She tries to gather the light again.

Nothing.

Her hands tremble.

The monster closes the distance.

For one moment, fear overwhelms her.

Then she grits her teeth and raises her hands again.

Young Mira:

"Come on..."

The light flickers.

Young Mira:

"COME ON!"

It erupts uncontrollably.

CUT TO BLACK.

---

Scene 6 — The Same Movement

PRESENT DAY.

The creature is still charging.

Mira's raised hand hasn't moved.

But everything else is different.

No trembling.

No frantic breathing.

No energy spilling into the air.

A tiny sphere of golden light rests above her palm.

Perfectly stable.

The creature is almost upon her.

Mira looks at it without changing her expression.

Mira:

"Three years."

The sphere compresses.

Smaller.

Denser.

Brighter.

A thin line of light forms between her fingers.

The creature leaps.

Mira moves one finger.

Mira:

"Still making the same mistake."

The line disappears.

For an instant, the creature passes her.

Nothing happens.

Then—

A golden flash cuts through the darkness.

BOOM.

The impact strikes the creature midair and sends it crashing into the ruins.

The ground trembles.

Dust rises.

The golden light vanishes as quickly as it appeared.

Mira lowers her hand.

She doesn't look toward the impact.

She turns away.

Behind her, the creature attempts to rise.

Mira stops walking.

Without turning around, she speaks.

Mira:

"Stay down."

The creature freezes.

A faint golden line appears beneath it.

It tries to move.

The light tightens.

The creature collapses against the ground, unable to advance.

Mira finally glances over her shoulder.

Mira:

"Good."

The golden line disappears.

The creature remains still.

Mira continues walking.

As if the entire encounter had cost her nothing worth mentioning.

---

Scene 7 — The Name

The villagers emerge slowly.

Nobody speaks.

The man who held the spear looks at the destroyed street, then at the young woman.

Villager:

"What are you?"

Mira adjusts the strap of her bag.

Mira:

"Passing through."

Villager:

"That wasn't an answer."

She looks at him.

The man falls silent.

A woman notices the golden symbol on Mira's pendant.

Her face changes.

Woman:

"That symbol..."

Mira's gaze shifts toward her.

The woman takes a hesitant step forward.

Woman:

"You're a Solarin?"

Mira says nothing.

The woman looks at the golden light fading from the stones.

Understanding dawns.

Woman:

"I thought your family was gone."

Mira's expression hardens.

Mira:

"You thought wrong."

Silence.

The woman lowers her head.

Not in worship.

In recognition.

Mira looks toward the northern mountains.

Villager:

"Where are you going?"

She starts walking.

Mira:

"North."

Villager:

"What's there?"

Mira stops.

For the first time, something changes in her expression.

Not fear.

Not uncertainty.

Something much older.

Mira:

"The truth."

She disappears into the darkness beyond the settlement.

---

Final Scene — Two Trails

Sunwatch Peak.

Aeryx stands before the ancient map.

His fingers rest over the northern location.

Raven watches him.

Raven:

"Think she's there?"

Aeryx looks at the handwriting.

He remembers the little sister he once knew.

The girl who had disappeared from his life.

Aeryx:

"I don't know."

He takes Mira's pendant in his hand.

Aeryx:

"But she's been looking for something."

He looks toward the northern mountains.

Aeryx:

"And I think it's connected to our family."

Raven adjusts her bag.

Raven:

"Then we'd better keep moving."

Aeryx nods.

They leave the observatory.

Far away, beneath the same night sky, Mira walks along a narrow mountain road.

She reaches a ridge and stops.

Below her, distant lights mark another settlement.

She takes a folded map from her bag.

Several locations have been crossed out.

One remains.

She studies it.

Then folds the map and continues walking.

No hesitation.

No looking back.

The camera slowly rises above the mountains.

Two roads stretch across the vast landscape.

One carries a brother searching for his sister.

The other carries a sister searching for the truth.

Neither knows how close their paths have become.

CUT TO BLACK.
