Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Overturned

Boom!

Ronin's fist slammed hard into Uvogin's chest.

A terrifying force detonated on impact.

Uvogin—whose body was braced and pinned against the airship's outer hull—actually bent backward under that burst of power. Shock flashed in his eyes the instant the punch landed.

Blood seeped from the corner of his mouth. Ronin's explosive strike had hurt him.

But the very next second, madness flared across Uvogin's furious face. The punch he'd thrown that missed Ronin was yanked back as his other arm snapped up and cinched inward—

Like he was trying to wrap Ronin in a crushing bear hug.

Ronin didn't give him the chance.

The Sharingan's heightened kinetic vision let Ronin read every movement clearly.

So the moment his strike connected, he dropped into a deep crouch. His right arm drew back with the motion, chakra rapidly gathering—by the look of it, he was about to drive a follow-up punch straight into Uvogin's family jewels.

The instant Ronin lowered his stance, even Uvogin felt a chill shoot straight up his spine.

But as Uvogin's aura shifted downward, he suddenly sucked in a deep breath.

Ronin caught the change at once. His heart jolted—he knew what Uvogin was about to do.

He didn't throw the charged punch.

Instead, he snapped his eyes wide at Uvogin and triggered Sharingan genjutsu, retreating the instant it activated.

At close range, Ronin could clearly see Uvogin's aura ripple slightly when the illusion hit—

But it was incredibly faint, and it returned to normal in a blink.

Still, that blink was enough.

Ronin sprang back several meters and lifted both hands to plug his ears.

And right then, Uvogin's roar exploded—loud enough to rupture eardrums.

After having his attacks dodged twice in a row, Uvogin had clearly sensed something off and decided to use a wide-area sonic blast.

A ranged, area attack like that couldn't be blocked with Substitution—even if Ronin could use it, it wouldn't help.

What Uvogin didn't expect was how decisive Ronin would be.

Uvogin had been building that breath from the moment Ronin charged at him.

After all, the memory of Ronin turning into white smoke the last time was still fresh. From the moment Ronin rushed him, Uvogin never believed he could grab him easily.

So the best option was to stun him at close range with sound.

But now…

The results weren't good.

Uvogin's gaze on Ronin grew more serious.

That burst just now had injured him—granted, part of it was because he'd already broken a few ribs fighting Ronin's father, and they still hadn't healed.

Even so, it proved Ronin's attacks couldn't be dismissed. And on top of that, Ronin had the ability to read his movements and evade, plus those annoying survival tricks.

This kid was nastier than Uvogin had judged.

Ronin, backing away, looked at Uvogin with a heavy, wary expression.

A pure Enhancer really was terrifyingly durable.

Cherry Blossom Impact was the strongest taijutsu burst Ronin could currently produce—yet even with a surprise hit like that, all it did was make Uvogin bleed a little at the mouth.

So what next?

Ronin watched the structures below the airship swell larger in his vision. His body sank low into a sprinter's starting stance.

Uvogin narrowed his eyes.

Was this brat going to charge again?

This terrain—the airship hull—restricted him too much. On flat ground, even if Ronin could read his movements, Uvogin was confident he could outspeed him and smash him back into the airship during his retreat.

But here, he could only sit like a target, waiting for Ronin to lunge—then countering when the chance came.

Damn, this is annoying.

Uvogin tensed his muscles, preparing to defend.

As he did, his lips moved slightly.

Ronin didn't hesitate. The moment he assumed the sprint stance, he exploded forward at an even faster speed than before, charging straight at Uvogin.

They weren't far apart to begin with.

This burst was extreme—so fast that in the blink of an eye Ronin was already in front of Uvogin.

He whipped up his right leg and, with a twist of his hips, snapped a kick toward Uvogin's head.

Taijutsu: Leaf Whirlwind!

This time, Uvogin didn't choose to tank it.

He dipped his head and let the kick pass, while his mouth moved again—he spat out a tooth.

That tooth, wrapped in Nen, shot out like a bullet. As Ronin transitioned into his next move, it grazed Ronin's abdomen and streaked past.

Ronin's expression didn't change.

The instant his kick missed, he shifted his center of gravity downward. The Sharingan had already shown him Nen quietly gathering around Uvogin's mouth.

So Uvogin spitting something didn't surprise him—

What surprised him was the tooth's speed.

Even though Ronin dodged as much as he could, the graze still tore open the skin on his side.

Bracing one hand against the hull, Ronin pushed off—ignoring the wound in his flank—and launched himself up like a spring.

He drove a rising kick from below, aiming straight at Uvogin's jaw.

The motion was lightning-fast, smooth as flowing water.

Because Uvogin had just attacked, at this distance he couldn't dodge again in time.

Ronin's foot slammed into his jaw.

And in that instant Uvogin thought, Shit.

Under his feet, the airship hull creaked as his body was lifted upward.

In that moment, Uvogin understood Ronin's plan.

He was trying to kick him off the airship.

Realizing it, Uvogin leaned back into a full backbend—like an iron bridge—and as his torso dropped, both hands shot out to grab the hull.

But at the same time, a sense of danger surged in his gut.

The next instant, he discovered the entire section of hull beneath him was changing—his view flipping violently with it.

That damn brat—he'd torn out and flipped the entire plate of outer hull Uvogin was standing on!

Ronin stood on the airship's hull, both arms loaded with condensed chakra. He hadn't used Cherry Blossom Impact this time.

Instead he used another C-rank technique:

Earth Style: Earth Mausoleum Dumpling Jutsu!

This jutsu normally used earth-nature chakra to boost strength and rip out a massive boulder to smash a target.

But here, Ronin used it to tear apart the airship's metal plating—perfectly.

Especially since Uvogin's position wasn't far from the broken window below, making it easier to rip the hull open there.

The airship was still dozens of meters above the ground. At that height, Ronin didn't have much confidence the fall alone would kill Uvogin.

But even if it didn't, Uvogin definitely wouldn't land lightly like Chairman Netero, as if gravity meant nothing.

So Ronin had two choices.

One: turn and rush to the cockpit right now, threaten the pilot, and force the airship to climb and fly to the next city.

Two: let the airship descend, go down after Uvogin, and finish him while he was injured.

Those options existed in Ronin's mind for less than three seconds before he chose.

Finish him.

Because he saw Uvogin slam into the ground and spew a huge mouthful of blood.

So—

While he's sick… take his life.
