Prince Kaiden's comment made Shuu feel conflicted. He picked up his teacup and drank a little before he felt his stomach twist itself in an upsetting manner.
"I…would rather not. I just want to rest in my room…"
Shuu complained, but the disapproving glances he got from others around him told him that he might have made a mistake.
"I cannot believe he rejected her sincere offer."
"Who does he think he is? He might be Prince Kaiden's previous companion, but to reject an offer from the future empress…"
"He is so arrogant. I guess he is getting a little ahead of himself now that Prince Kaiden is showing him attention…"
Shuu held back his flinch at these words.
He knew that Prince Kaiden was paying attention to him because of the companion mark and nothing more. This closeness was temporary, and once Prince Kaiden lay with Lady Sera, he would forget about Shuu completely.
He pushed his disappointment down and remained quiet.
