Chapter 1 - Chapter:1

Today, I'm really happy.

Finally, I'm going on a date with my boyfriend.

We had been planning this for a long time, but it never happened. This month was especially busy for me — patients, hospital, endless calls. I just hope no one calls me today.

I stand in front of the mirror and look at my reflection.

I look… hot in A black, backless short dress hugs my body perfectly.

Just as I smile to myself, my phone starts ringing.

I glance at the caller ID and smile.

"Heyyy, Mr. Alex," I say softly as I pick up the call.

On the other side, he replies playfully,

"Hi, my Riya baby. How long do I have to wait, huh?"

"Five minutes," I say confidently.

He smiles and hangs up.

I swipe on a bit of lipstick, take one last look at myself, and head downstairs.

"Mummmaaaa," I call out happily and wrap my arms tightly around my mom.

She hugs me back, kisses my forehead, and laughs.

"Oh my God… who is this hot, pretty girl? Wait—oh, she's my baby girl!"

I smile shyly.

"Mummaaa, enough. I'm leaving or I'll be late."

She looks at me with a confused expression.

"And where are you going?"

"I already told you, Mumma. I'm going on a date with Alex, okay? Byeee."

She smiles.

"Okay, bye."

As I step outside, I see Alex waiting for me — leaning against one of his favorite cars, a BMW M5, which happens to be one of my favorites too.

I grin and run to him, throwing my arms around him.

"I missed you, baby."

He hugs me back and lifts me effortlessly off the ground.

"I missed you toooo, baby."

He looks into my eyes deeply and then glances at my lips. Nervous, I bite my bottom lip.

His finger gently brushes my lips.

"Don't bite… I don't like it when someone else touches what belongs to me," he says softly.

I look down, shy.

He pulls me closer.

"Can I?"

I nod and close my eyes. His soft lips meet mine.

Suddenly, car horns blare.

"Let's move, or people will watch this like it's a 365-day live movie," he teases.

I laugh.

"Shame on you! Let's get out of here," I say.

He nods.

"Okay, let's go."

He opens the car door for me.

"Thank you," I murmur as I slide into the passenger seat.

He sits in the driver's seat and starts the car. One hand rests on my thigh, and I glance at him, smiling. He smiles back.

Then, suddenly, he slams on the brakes.

"Ahh! What are you doing, Alex?" I exclaim.

I look at him, then at the road. My eyes widen in horror. Some people are chasing a man, and he's bleeding badly.

I move to get out of the car, but Alex grabs my arm.

"Riya, where are you going?" he asks.

I stare at him.

"Alex… can't you see? That man's been stabbed! I have to help him!"

I get out of the car and rush toward the man.

"Are you okay?" I ask, kneeling at his level and trying to unbutton his shirt just enough to see the wound.

"Let me see… I'm a doctor," I insist.

The man pushes my hands away.

"No… I don't want anyone's help," he says weakly.

"Are you crazy? Look at all this blood! You could die!" I snap, anger and fear rising.

He stares at me silently, shaking his head.I open his shirt carefully — and then I see it.

A deep cut across his waist.

This isn't something I can handle here.

I look up and call out urgently,

"Alex… Alex!"

He rushes toward me.

"Should I call an ambulance?" he asks.

"Yes," I reply quickly. "I'll call the hospital."

He nods.

My call goes through. I glance once more at the man — he's staring at me again. Watching me.

"Hello?" a voice answers.

"Hello, it's me. Dr. Riya," I say firmly.

"Prepare for an emergency. We're on our way."

"Okay, ma'am," the staff replies.

I turn to Alex. His mood has clearly changed — our date slipping away.

I walk closer and hold his hand.

"I'm sorry, baby," I whisper.

He looks at me with sad but understanding eyes.

"It's okay. I understand."

Soon, the ambulance arrives.

"Hurry," I tell the staff.

They place the man inside the ambulance. I get in with them — I need to stop the bleeding as much as possible before we reach the hospital.

I look back through the window and see Alex.

He nods at me — he'll follow in his car.

Inside the ambulance, I work quickly.

Yet the entire time… the man keeps looking at me.

And for some reason, it makes me nervous.

Why?

I give him an injection to sedate him just before we reach the hospital.

As soon as we arrive, I speak to the staff,

"Take care of him. He's lost a lot of blood — start a blood transfusion immediately. And watch the wound on his waist carefully."

They nod and rush him inside.

I hear my name.

"Riya."

I turn around and see Alex standing there. I smile.

"Everything's okay now. We can go… back to our date."

He looks at me with soft eyes and smiles.

"Okay. Now no work. Just you and me."

I nod.

We walk toward the hospital parking area.

Alex opens the car door for me.

"Thank you," I say softly.

He gets into the driver's seat and starts the car.

I smile at him — then turn to look out the window.

But my thoughts stay behind… with that man.

Who was he?

And why did I feel nervous?

This never happened before.

Why does it feel like my life just brushed against something dangerous… without me even realizing it?

Ifeel Something about it unsettles me… and yet, why does it feel like I should listen to Alex?

Why does fear creep through me so deeply… and why do I feel like I shouldn't be here?
