Chapter 1 - Chapter in: Becoming an adventurer

It was a sunny day, with the hot blazing sun high above, people in armor and weapons moving nonstop and the smell of blood was in the air.

Looking up, he found himself staring at a giant shield attached to a building where those people wearing armor were going in and out without stopping.

Seeing all of this before him, he could only think of one thing: "Transmigration... I'm in another world, right?"

A few hours earlier.

It was early in the morning, around 9am. After spending three hours on the bus, he managed to get to the destination he wanted.

At last, the man was finally able to participate in a cosplay event.

Since he first learn such an act was a thing he had longed to spend a day within one of these events and take pictures with people cosplaying.

In that time he spent going around asking to have a picture with them. Most of the people cosplaying refused to take pictures with him or ignored him.

Still, he made sure this wasn't gonna ruin his time in there.

Within a couple of hours, he has taken 24 pictures with all kinds of characters and even managed to take 7 pictures with different people cosplaying his favorite anime girl.

He even managed to buy some anime merch that he could buy with his limited funds, though he had to skip lunch because of it.

Since he didn't tell his mother that he was attending a cosplay event he had to leave before 3pm so he could take the bus and go home.

As soon as he took a step outside the mall where the cosplay event was, he found himself in this place.

In the first ten minutes since he got here, he simply stood in front of the building before him.

With the people around him gazing at him, he walked away in front of the double door of the building and sat on the bench across the street.

"Haaa." He sighed. To think he became an isekai person on his own. He never once thought of him being one, sure, he imagined himself, but that was mostly in his head.

You might be thinking, didn't he just come from a cosplay event? How can he be so sure that this is another world and not just some prank made by some wealthy people?

Simple. The blood smeared over the person's face was too real, along with the smell of it. The floating woman holding a staff, being dragged by a bulky person, was too realistic.

The dead creatures twitching even when they are pierced by a spear were too gruesome to be fake. And most of all, the humanoid animal-headed people walking in the street.

And seeing some of the common monsters he knew from the fantasy series he had watched, hanging on the back of some people entering the building, he knew he was not hallucinating this.

Looking around, he found people around him were smiling at empty air, watching them, he muttered: "Status."

— — — — —

Name: Nine. | Level: 1. | Class: None.

[Physical stats]: Strength: 10. | Agility: 10. | Defense: 10.

[Energy stats]: Vitality: 10. | Mana: 10. | Stamina: 10.

[Existence stats]: Intelligence: 10. | Spirit: 10. | Luck: 10.

[Skill]s: None. | [Item]s: None.| AP:0. | SP: 0.

— — — — —

"Hmmm.... Is this good?" He asked, looking at his status window and stats being at ten points only.

Was having ten points in all your stats good or not? He couldn't tell or know.

Since no one was gonna answer him, he tapped his pockets to see if he had anything on him.

When he got to this world, he found that the bag that was on his back was gone.

After a while of tapping every inch of his body, he found something in his pocket.

Pulling it out, he found a small lighter with a flashlight set on it. Using it, he smiled and said: "So, this is my only connection with that world?"

To think that the only thing that would remind him of his original world is a small lighter, a lighter with a tiny flashlight set on it.

Still, he held tight to it not wanting it to be stolen by anyone, then...

[ The system has found your existence. ]

[ As a way to help you live in this world, you are given a chance to take one item that will be part of your existence. ]

[ A ticket that allows you to make an object part of your existence and to summon it again when destroyed. ]

[ An ability that will help you survive in this world. ]

Looking at the four panels before him, he smiled, then pressed the third panel.

A second later, he found something in his pocket, pulling it out, he found a small golden ticket.

Grabbing the lighter and wrapping the ticket around it, he asked the panel: "What now?"

[ Would you like to use the ticket? Y/N ]

Without hesitation, he pressed the Y option on the panel. Without any form of flash of light or something fancy, the ticket simply disappeared.

"Is that it?" He couldn't tell whether the promise words were true or not. The only way for him to know this was to have the lighter destroyed.

He couldn't do it right now, since if he destroyed the lighter it would make a small explosion that might alert the people around him, and mistake him as a bad person.

"Fuck!" He muttered, annoyed that he couldn't even know whether it was working or not. Putting the lighter back in his pocket, he pressed the second panel.

A second later, multiple box panels appeared to him with all kinds of items in them.

From modern weapons, cold weapons, armors, potions, woks, kitchen tools, farming tools, and many more.

Five minutes later.

"I choose this one." Nine said, tapping the panel box with a hammer on it. Just like before he felt something forming in his pocket and pulled it out without hesitation.

Yet the thing he pulled out was a small black string bracelet only, not the hammer he pressed. Putting it on, the hammer manifested in his hand, and a panel appeared.

[ Hammer. Durability: 10. Attack power: 10.

Effects: When hit by someone, your next hit with the hammer will stun them for 10 seconds. This will work 5 times in one target. ]

Reading the details about it, he raised it up and down; it felt weightless. At the same time, he could tell it was hard and durable.

Finally, he pressed the last panel.

[ Ability: Balance breaker.

You can pick three of your stats; each time you level up, these three will increase by 2 points on their own.

Note: You cannot pick the Luck stat. ]

"Hmmm." Summoning his status window. Nine presses his [Vitality], [Agility], and [Stamina] stats without hesitation.

[ The system hopes you live the life you want in this world. You will be given the following items to start your life.

20 silver coins. Identity template. ]

[ You can summon them by using the given bracelet. You may now proceed to the adventurer guild. ]

Looking forward, he found arrows pointing towards the building he was staring at before.

Summoning ten coins he received from the system, he walked inside it.

Once Nine was inside the guild, he found the smell of sweat and blood much harsher than outside.

Along with the loud conversation between the people eating on the corner, and people talking about what the next quest they should take is.

Looking around the guild to find where he could apply to become one, he found a single male receptionist besides the beautiful female receptionists.

Seeing how this lane consists of people around the age of 15-17, he knew this was the lane where he needed to go to apply as an adventurer. Without wasting any time, he made his way to this lane and lined up.

As he waited for his turn to come, he found that the people within the same line had a weapon on them, unlike him, who only had a hammer to his name.

Thinking about he wondered if he should have brought a weapon first before going here.

Remembering how the system told him to proceed to this, he brushed it off and waited quietly for his turn, along with listening to the talk of the people around him.

Ten to fifteen minutes later, Nine was the next one; he just needed to wait for the person signing up as an adventurer, and he would be the next one to do.

As soon as the previous one finished, he was welcomed by the male receptionist. The receptionist had blond hair, blue eyes, and a sharp jawline that made Nine think of him as the ideal man.

Introducing himself, Nine sat on the chair, fixed his posture, and stretched out his hand for a handshake. After confirming what he wanted to do in this place, Nine stopped talking, allowing the receptionist to talk.

The receptionist smiled for a moment before he started. "Welcome to the adventurer guild Mister Nine. From the way you introduced yourself, I guess that you already know how to read and write"

The receptionist slammed down a paper before Nine, then continued: "But, if you don't, please allow me to do it, since you might have a hard time doing it."

His voice was calm, like a gentle, cold breeze of air brushing off your skin in a grassy plain, yet it carried rudeness within it, hiding it in his tone.

Nine could tell that the receptionist wanted him to admit that he could not read and to boost his confidence back from what he did to him earlier.

'He wants me to admit that I'm illiterate so he can get his confidence back since I didn't let him talk earlier? Joke's on you, I'm shameless. Admitting such a thing won't make me embarrassed at all.' Finishing this thought, Nine started:

"Embarrassed as I am, please help me with this..." Nine lock eyes with him and smile a bit before erasing it. "You're nothing but a worker in here." Then flipped the paper toward the receptionist.

Nine voices were like a calm blooming flower, but to the receptionist, the end of that blooming shot out bullets of fire that burned him.

From the perspective of those behind Nine, it appeared they were just having a conversation. However, to the two of them, a subtle war of mockery was unfolding without any explicit curses or insults.

Annoyed by how Nine said the last part after smiling at him, the receptionist grabbed a pen and prepared himself to start writing, then he began asking Nine.

"Name, age, gender?"

"Nine, 17, and figured out the last part on your own will you?" He said, mockingly. "What? Can't tell what my gender is on your own?" Annoying the receptionist more.

Writing it down, the receptionist continued: "Well then, please—" Before he could even finish his words, Nine placed his hand on the marble tablet on the side of the table.

"Ah.. don't worry I already know how this works. I was watching earlier. Just list down what you want from it and end this as soon as possible."

The tablet where Nine placed his hand is called a [Status tablet]. A drop item within a dungeon that allowed one to see a specific part of one's status window.

The one that the receptionist has allowed him to see Nine stats and skills. This is one of the procedure that one need to complete to become an adventurer. This is also a way to tell what rank they should give them.

Reading, Nine status, the receptionist smiled for a bit before swiping away the details on it. "Please hand over your Identity template, so we can proceed to making you an official member of the guild."

Nine looked up for a bit before putting his hand in his pocket. And secretly summoning his identity template from the bracelet he had.

"Here." Nine said, giving it to the receptionist. Grabbing his template, the receptionist placed it on top of the status tablet and sent out mana to it.

Ten seconds later, the receptionist gave Nine his identity template back. He smiled for a moment before loudly announcing:

"Welcome to the adventurer guild, Mister Nine. Normally, everyone starts at E-Rank. Since you didn't meet the requirements for this rank, you will be F-rank only."

The receptionist felt relieved saying those words. Finally, he had said something. Nine couldn't answer back. With him being a F-Rank only when everyone else was already at E-Rank when they applied, he knew this was gonna be embarrassing for Nine to take.

Then Nine asked something, his voice was still the same as before, as if he was not embarrassed at all: "Can I know what the requirements for E-Rank are?"

"Huh?" The receptionist was confused; he was not embarrassed by being known as an F-Rank only when everyone else was one rank higher than him. Still, as a worker of this guild, he answered the question of Nine.

"I see, thanks." Nine said smiling at the information he just got, after being taught what the requirements for the E-Rank were.

Seeing that even loudly announcing Nine's rank to embarrass him did nothing, the receptionist smiled, accepting his pathetic actions, and grabbed some quest paper under his table.

"Sorry for what I did earlier. I seem to have lost my composure when you did not mean to be rude or anything." He stood from his position and bowed down, then continued.

"I know that you might not take any of this, but please take one of these quests as a way of my saying sorry. Each of these quests will earn you much more money than the one posted on the board."

Nine look at him, before saying: "No thanks."

"I see, of course, you won't take one. Why did I even think of this?" The receptionist's pride was hurt, not because Nine said no to him, but because he knew he had ruined the reputation of the receptionists' guild.

The receptionist upholds a reputation for being friendly to everyone. They simply do their work without putting their emotions or opinions into it.

So every single one of them simply acts nice to everyone, whether they are a different race, young or old, male or female, polite or rude, big or small, slim or wide.

But instead, he let his pride get the best of him and tried to embarrass Nine. Yet even with all of that, Nine did not yell out or curse him; instead, he asked what the requirements for E-Rank were.

"Wait! I'm not saying no because of what you did." Nine voices were quick. "I'm saying no, because I don't plan to move around today, I'm too tired right now. I just plan to apply as one today, explore around the town, and do my first quest tomorrow. So, don't feel bad about it."

"I see..." The receptionist said, fixing his posture and looking up. Seeing how everyone's attention was going towards them, Nine quickly grabbed 5 silver coins in his pocket and placed them on the table.

Then quickly prepared himself to run away. "Thanks for the service, here's the fees. So, bye!" Saying those words, he ran away from there and started exploring the town.

Sitting down, the receptionist immediately stood up and apologized to the other people waiting for their turn before walking into the room behind them.

He sighed deeply, thinking back on what he had done. Just how stupid could he have been to be annoyed by someone because he did not start the conversation before them?

A few minutes later, the other receptionist, who was working at the other table, came in. Four beautiful women spread out in the room, one of them sat down next to him and began to tease him.

"Hahaha, what were you doing earlier?" The woman had striking red hair and eyes, a captivating gaze, and a voice that commanded attention.

Men, adventurers or not, would line up just to catch a conversation with her. Her uniform couldn't be fully closed due to her ample figure, leaving the top buttons open and revealing her cleavage.

"They called her the Stone Maker..... not for her skills, but because men froze stiff whenever she leaned close."

"Back off!!!" The man snapped, pushing her way from the couch.

"Kya. A bit rude don't you think?" She teases. "Still, what were you thinking a while ago? Did someone who admitted he can't read and write, really annoy you that much that you actually tried to embarrass him?" Reminding him of their reputation.

"Aaaah, stop it. I know what I did was wrong." He paused for a bit. "It's just, I mostly do all the talking when working with the people applying to become an adventurer, while they just stand there waiting for me to finish. So when I get pushed back where I'm the one just staying silent and he was the one talking.... I .... I felt annoyed by it."

Without letting the woman talk he began to talk about what happened, this time from his point of view.

When he was helping the other applicants, he already saw Nine in the back. When he saw him, he couldn't help but mock him in his head.

Nine stood out for being plain; his simple clothes were ill-suited for any task.... be it selling in stalls, exploring for herbs, or assisting locals with their problems. Unlike everyone else who carried weapons, he didn't even have a small blade for cutting herbs.

To him, Nine was nothing but a pathetic person.

Not like those people who wanted to become adventurers because they thought they had what it takes to reach the top. Or some village children who listened to a gallant adventure of someone and thought to themselves, I'll become like them.

To him, Nine was below those people. But the moment Nine sat on the chair, everything changed. The man who seemed to be at a loss a while ago suddenly emitted this atmosphere of a well-prepared adventurer ready to take on a dungeon wave alone and leave victorious.

The man who acted like a hunchback and was looking around nonstop a while ago changed; he had this determined look, and that made him stand out more than the other applicants.

Normally, when someone is applying as an adventurer, they would stay silent, only answering the questions asked by the receptionist, letting the receptionist do everything for them.

But Nine addresses everything he needed to know the moment he sat down. From his name, age, gender, level, and experience.

The seemingly uncontrolled person who makes one think of him as nothing but a pathetic person, suddenly turns into a well-mannered one.

Someone who could look you straight in the eye. Someone unafraid to speak. Someone confident..... the kind you never see in applicants.

All of these impressed him greatly, but the one thing he couldn't help but hate Nine for, was how he was the one listening and needed to wait so he could start.

This infuriated him, and he wanted to be the one at the top of the conversation, where he was the one leading and not the one following.

But each time he tried to take that position, Nine would push him deeper than before. When he tried to bury Nine being illiterate, then Nine made a comeback:

"You're nothing but a worker in here."

Nine didn't intend any deep meaning to these words, but to him, he was reminded that even a low-ranked adventurer will be recognized and remembered by someone from one of their adventure.

While he, a receptionist will be known as nothing but a worker in the guild.

Someone who just sat behind a table and smiled all day. Someone who can't fight on his own, and decides to hide inside the guild.

Someone who will be remembered as nothing but a worker who doesn't fight against monsters, explore hidden dungeons, and labyrinths.

When he tried to make himself the one leading the conversation, Nine would simply push him aside and take the lead. Telling Nine what to do, too, was useless since Nine would not let him finish his words.

He was on the verge of giving up on getting his pride back, then. He saw Nine stats and skills. When he saw that he couldn't believe that such a thing was possible, a level 1 over the age of 17 and having 10 points in all his stats?

That was ridiculous, he had seen thousands of people's status, and almost all of them were above level 5 and had two stats above 20 points. But him? He didn't even have a stat above ten points. Most of all, a skill.

He can't even be promoted to E-Rank on the spot like almost everyone else. Sure, some individuals were also F-Rank only when they started, but these people have higher levels, stats, and skills.

So when he realized he could embarrass Nine by loudly announcing he was only F-Rank, he was delighted. Thinking this would at least make him lose that arrogant tone of his.

But then after he did so, Nine simply asked him what those requirements were. He didn't expect that Nine would do such a thing and not be bothered by what he had done.

"That's alright." The red-haired lady said, caressing his head as he lay flat on her thick thighs. She let him take his time before continuing.

"Didn't he say. He didn't take any of the quests you were offering, not because he was offended by what you did, but because he was tired and only wanted to apply as one. So don't feel bad about it, just try to redeem yourself with him next time you see him."

The man sighed only, before opening his mouth. "Thanks sis, I'm so glad all of you are with me." All five of them in this room are siblings; they were born to the same mother and were born on the same day.

Being together since childhood, they found themselves doing the same thing with just a tiny difference. As they grow older they only find themselves doing the same work.

Looking at her sister's large chest, he sat up and said: "Should we go back outside now?"

"We still have fifteen minutes in our break, well we do you only have five minutes left. So just stay here till then, besides, it's midday, most adventurers won't even be here." His sister replied.
