Of course, they just tilted their heads in perfect unison, staring at me with their beady little eyes. The red-chested one even puffed up its feathers, as if to say, And? What are you gonna do about it, brick-face?

Too bad I couldn't talk to them. Or pet them.
Still, with these birds around, at least I wouldn't be so lonely anymore.
Then suddenly, the bigger one with the red chest flew away.

I was literally sobbing in my mind.
However, a few minutes later, it returned—with a twig in its beak.

That was when I finally noticed it.
Nestled in the corner of the windowsill, half-hidden by a loose stone, was a tiny, messy pile of twigs and dry grass.
And… was that a strand of my own ivy?

It was a nest!

The fluffballs were moving in!
Kakaka! Good choice, fluffy friends! There's literally no safer or better place to build a nest than an abandoned castle!

There was one bigger bird and three smaller ones, all sharing the same nest now…

Hmm… now then… should I name these fellows?
And just like that, I spent the next hour thinking of the best names possible.
In the end, I settled on Jack for the male, and Mira, Sophia, and Bella for the females. They were actually the names of the main characters from my old novel.
