Three weeks of careful coexistence, and Ashina woke to the sound of breaking glass.
She was out of bed and moving before conscious thought caught up—down the hall, following the crash and the spike of pain through the bond that made her chest constrict.
Kendrick's bedroom door stood open.
He was on his knees beside his bed, blood dripping from his hand onto shattered glass scattered across the floor. A water glass, it looked like. His face was pale, eyes unfocused like he was still half in whatever dream had woken him.
"Kendrick." Ashina stopped in the doorway, suddenly aware she was in his private space wearing only a sleep shirt. "What happened?"
He blinked, awareness returning. Looked at his bleeding hand like he didn't recognize it. "Nightmare. Knocked over the glass. I'm fine."
"You're bleeding."
"It's nothing"
"Let me see." She crossed the room before her brain could override the instinct, kneeling beside him in the glass. "Give me your hand."
