Chapter 3 - Chapter 388: The Silent Aftermath

-----------:Keifer's POV:-------------

I didn't wait for her to process what had happened on that street. I grabbed her hand and led her straight to the car. My pulse was still thumping in my ears, a mix of adrenaline from Yuri vanishing and the raw irritation of not knowing why.

I shoved the car into gear and peeled away from the curb. I kept waiting for Jay-jay to start crying or freak out, but she just sat there, her arms crossed over her chest, staring at the road like she wanted to punch the windshield.

"You okay?" I asked, my voice tight.

"I'm annoyed, Keifer" she snapped, finally looking at me. "He just walked away. No 'see you later,' no explanation. It's irritating.

I let out a short, dry laugh. That was my Jay-jay. She wasn't shattering; she was getting fired up, even taking a shot at my leadership. I pulled the car over a few blocks from her place, the engine idling low in the dark. I couldn't wait until we got to her door. The way she looked right now—eyes flashing, jaw set—was doing things to my head.

"What are we stopping for?" she asked, turning her head toward me.

"Because you're talking too much" I muttered. I unbuckled and leaned across the seat, my hand catching her chin.

----------:Jay-jay's POV:-----------

I didn't have time to respond before Keifer was in my space. The interior of the car felt like it was shrinking. He didn't look like he was worried about Section E anymore; he looked hungry. His eyes were dark, focused entirely on my mouth.

"Keifer —"

"Shhh 🤫" he whispered, his thumb pressing against my lip.

He leaned in and kissed me, and it wasn't the comforting kind. It was deep, possessive, and filled with a heat that made my head spin. I didn't hesitate; I leaned into him, my hands finding the back of his neck and pulling him closer until the center console was the only thing keeping us apart.

He let out a low, breathy sound against my lips, his hand sliding from my chin to the back of my head, his fingers tangling in my hair. The tension from Yuri's disappearance didn't go away; it just transformed into something else—something hot and heavy that made my heart race for a completely different reason.

He pulled back just enough to look me in the eye, his breath ragged and his gaze lingering on my face."I'm taking you home. Right now."

-----------:Keifer's POV:-----------

The drive the rest of the way was a blur. When we reached her house, I walked her to the entrance, my eyes scanning the shadows. I couldn't afford a single mistake tonight. I watched her unlock the door, my hands stuffed deep into my pockets to keep from reaching for her again.

"Lock the door, Jay-jay," I said, my voice low and steady.

She nodded, her face still slightly flushed from the car. "Goodnight, Keifer."

I lingered for a second, my gaze softening as it fixed on hers. "Get some rest, Jay. I'll see you tomorrow. Good Night"

I waited until I heard the lock click before I turned around and headed back to the car.
