It was evening, and Liliana sat on the floor, scrolling through her phone, waiting for Cameron to come home. The front door swung open, and he burst in, a big grin on his face, holding a colorful birthday cake."Happy Birthday to you!" he sang.
"Awww, you didn't have to!" she replied, her excitement bubbling over.
"Make a wish!" he urged, setting the cake on the table.
She leaned over, closed her eyes, and blew out the candles. When she opened her eyes, Cameron held out a small wrapped cage.
"What's this? A present?" she asked, taking it from him.
"Open it!" he encouraged.
"Ahhhh omgoshhhh, it's a bat! You got me a bat! It's so pretty!"
Cameron smiled. "Of course! Your favorite thing on your special day. You like it?"
"I love it!" Liliana cooed at the bat resting inside the cage.
"Okay, enough bat watching. Let's eat some cake and enjoy the rest of the night," he said, carefully placing the cage on the window sill.
"I'll get the drinks!" Liliana exclaimed, racing to the kitchen. She quickly grabbed cups and drinks before rushing back to the living room, plopping down beside Cameron as he set up the TV.
"Hey sis, what should we watch? Horror movie or romance?" he asked.
"Oh come on, Cameron, you know I love horror! Let's watch Dracula."
"The one where he can turn into a bat?" he questioned.
"Yes, that one! It's so unreal how they associate vampires with bats; bats are cute!
Cameron chuckled, shaking his head. "Only you would think that," he teased, and they both settled in, ready for a night of spooky fun.
As the movie started, eerie music filled the room, and Liliana snuggled into the couch, excitement bubbling inside her. "Look! He just turned into a bat!" she exclaimed, pointing at the screen.Cameron chuckled, "Okay, I'll admit, that's kinda cool."
They took turns laughing at the movie, sharing stories of their childhood fears of vampires. "I thought if I had garlic bread, I'd be safe!" Cameron joked."I thought wearing a cape would give me superpowers!" Liliana shot back, wrapping a blanket around herself.
As the final credits roll in,Liliana and Cameron were already passed out from the over excitement of the celebration,as they slept sprawled all over the living room floor, unbeknownst to them in the dark of the night the sleek black bat unfurled itself revealing dark red eyes glinting in the dark as they focused on Liliana
