### The Gift of Doom
The silver bot bowed, the sound of its plated joints echoing like a bell toll across the endless black. From its chest a panel split open with clockwork precision, revealing a compartment. Inside it sat a cube of impossible geometry, its edges shifting between sharp lines and liquid curves. Its very presence seemed to bend the Abyss around it.
The **Black Lattice**.
Emerald light flared from the bot's hand, cold and surgical. The Lattice shuddered, then unfolded like a puzzle box spitting open, disgorging not one but two figures upon the Abyss floor.
**Sentry**.
**The Void**.

### The Abyss Welcomes
Sentry hit the Abyss headfirst, his golden form cracking against the living black surface. Instantly, the Abyss rose to meet him—oily tendrils coiling into his pores, forcing down his throat, sliding into every weakness of flesh and soul. It tried to eat him alive, to dissolve his atoms into the eternal dark. For several suffocating heartbeats, it seemed he would vanish.
But then his eyes opened. The golden light stirred faintly. His very existence pushed back against the dark, halting its consumption. Slowly, shakily, Robert Reynolds fought to his knees. His powers stemmed the tide, but his spirit faltered.
The Void, however, did not fall. The Abyss did not consume it—why would it? The Void never felt more at home. Here, it blossomed, its essence spreading outward, gnawing at the dark like a cancer devouring its host. The Abyss shrieked as its own nature was turned against itself. For every tendril it sent, the Void ate and grew.
It might have broken free then—ripped itself loose, spilled across realities—but its gaze met Doom.
And it stopped.
The Void's hunger, infinite and all-consuming, recoiled before Doom's stillness. Bound runes ignited along the Silver Bot's frame. Sigils carved into reality itself lit up in emerald fire. The Void strained, but the geometry of Doom was merciless.
A chain appeared, dragging itself out of nothingness, metallic links burning with green. The Silver Bot yanked hard, pulling the Void like an animal, its hiss echoing through the Abyss. It thrashed, spat, dissolved the chain with acidic whispers, but nothing held. Doom's will had designed this trap not for a beast, but for a concept itself.
Bound, the Void was dragged before Knull.

### Knull Claims What Is His
"My master has prepared a little gift for you before the fight," the Silver Bot declared, its voice Doom's own. "For Doom will not suffer a weakened foe. That is a disgrace to Doom's name."
The Void spiraled before Knull, snarling, powerless.
Knull laughed, and the sound was a glacier cracking across galaxies. "Child. Your arrogance surpasses even mine." He took the chain with a lazy hand, pulling the Void closer like a predator playing with its prey. His eyes blazed red as the Abyss surged, tendrils rising like waves of an ocean in storm.
Face to face, the Void withered. It was a shadow beside the original dark.
"Child," Knull said, his voice dripping contempt and hunger alike, "I am Knull. Lord of the Abyss. God of the symbiotes. King in Black. You are but a fragment. And fragments belong to me."
The Abyss rolled up in answer, swallowing the Void, knitting it into Knull's form. There was no battle, no struggle. The Void bent immediately, as if recognizing its true master. Its power flowed into him, his pale frame rippling with stolen strength.
Knull sighed, a low, satisfied exhalation. "Yes… after so long." His smile widened into something feral. "A fine gift, mortal. And now, I presume the broken man you dropped at my feet is meant to be my opponent."
His gaze cut through silver, through shadow, straight toward Doom.

### Sentry's Shame
Robert Reynolds staggered upright, golden hair matted, eyes wild. The Abyss writhed around him, gnawing at his edges, but could not fully consume him. His chest heaved. He looked small, so small, in the throne-room of living shadows.
Doom sat above them all on a throne not of bone, but of emerald geometry imposed upon the black. Behind him, the Abyss itself strained under his will, tainted green. Doom said nothing. He did not need to. His gaze, sharp as law, fell upon Sentry as if dissecting him.
The Silver Bot bowed again, mocking and regal. "Yes, King in Black, you presume rightly. He is to fight you. He is nothing but a flawed man. A man who slaughtered millions because he could not leash himself. A man so weak, he laughed while killing his wife. A man so broken, his only path was to forget his sins."
Each word struck Robert like a hammer. He clutched his skull, trembling, the memories flooding back. The explosions, the screams, his wife's final breath. His laugh, hollow and cracked, echoing in the wreckage.
"Man," the Bot repeated. "A man too weak to master himself."
Sentry collapsed to his knees, tears brimming, shoulders shaking.
"Should Knull win," the Bot said, "he shall have free reign. But should this flawed man defeat him, he shall be granted a chance at redemption."
---
### Redemption
The word tore through Robert's mind like lightning. _Redemption._
He mouthed it first as if unsure. Then he whispered it. Then he said it louder. "Redemption." The Abyss coiled around him, but the golden light inside him flared. He clung to it with every fiber of his being.
"Redemption," he muttered again, voice trembling. For the first time in his wretched existence, he believed it could be possible.
His eyes lit up with hope. Hope so fragile it was a miracle. And then—he lunged at Knull.
---
### The First Clash
Knull laughed, cruel and booming. He did not move. The Abyss struck for him. Tendrils thicker than towers whipped Sentry, each blow tearing flesh and bone, each strike cracking the golden glow. Still Robert rose, again and again, throwing fists of solar power that were swallowed whole.
"You see?" Knull mocked, barely glancing his way. "This man poses no challenge." He seized Sentry by the throat, lifting him like a child's doll. "He is a coward. He is weak. He mutters redemption to the Abyss—the place where redemption never was."
Knull cast him down, broken.
---
### Doom's Silence
Through it all, Doom did not move. He sat upon his throne of emerald geometry, eyes sharp, hands still. The Abyss bent behind him, emerald consuming black, yet he watched in silence.
Then, softly, Doom laughed.
It was not mockery, but inevitability. The laugh of a man who knew the game was unfolding as he designed it.

### The Transformation
The Silver Bot stepped forward. Its palm touched Sentry's skull.
Robert jolted, golden light flickering wildly. The Bot's form twisted, its armor cracking open as light poured forth—light so pure the Abyss recoiled, hissing. Even Knull turned his head from it.
The Silver Bot became an image—a man Robert knew. **Ray Coffin.**
"Robert Reynolds," the voice said. "You have shown courage. You have embraced hope. You are broken, but you yearn to be whole. You are worthy."
The light swelled, merging with Robert's form.
"From this moment, you are the bearer of the Enigma Force. You are Captain Universe."
The Abyss howled as golden light burst forth, radiant as the birth of a star. Robert stood transformed, glowing with a cosmos within his flesh. His eyes burned with a power that was not hunger, not chaos, but balance. For the first time, he was not fractured between Sentry and Void. He was one.
