The Beginning of the Disaster

There were once two sisters—Miya and Selena.

They were the kind of children whose laughter filled rooms and lingered long after they ran outside to play. Their home was warm, alive with music, teasing arguments, and the gentle scolding of parents who loved them fiercely. Miya, the elder, was brave and protective. Selena, younger by a few years, was soft-spoken, curious, and endlessly trusting.

They believed the world was kind.

But destiny does not like happiness that lasts too long.

On ChristmasEve, while the world dressed itself in lights and joy, destiny knocked on their door.

A knock.

Sharp.

Slow.

Deliberate.

Selena flinched. Miya paused mid-laughter. Their father stood up, smiling faintly as he straightened his sweater.

"I'll get it," he said.

Their mother remained seated beside them, one hand resting on her swollen belly. Eight months pregnant. Tired, but glowing.

Their father reached the door.

BANG.

The sound tore through the house like thunder.

Then—

Silence.

A terrible, suffocating silence.

Heavy breathing echoed through the hallway.

*Huff…*

*Huff…*

"Hah… hah…"

Selena's small hands trembled as she stood up.

"W-where is… everybody…?" she whispered, her voice fragile and confused.

No one answered.

She took a step forward. Then another.

The door was open.

And the world shattered.

Blood.

Blood was everywhere.

It stained the walls. The floor. The doorframe. Thick, dark, and still warm.

Her father lay crumpled near the entrance, eyes lifeless, his body broken beyond recognition.

Her mother—

Selena's breath caught in her throat.

Her mother lay beside him, unmoving, blood soaking into her clothes, one hand still curled protectively over her unborn child.

"Wh—what…? Why isn't mama moving? Mama!" Selena shouted, her mind refusing to understand what her eyes were seeing.

Her knees nearly gave out.

Then panic struck her chest like a blade.

"Miya…?" she breathed. "Where is my sister?"

Her eyes darted around wildly, searching for any sign of her.

She thought she would not leave her,

That's when she saw it.

A letter.

It lay neatly on the doormat, untouched by blood—as if placed there with care.

With shaking hands, Selena picked it up and unfolded the paper.

The words were printed in bold, merciless letters:

YOU NO LONGER HAVE ANY FAMILY.

YOUR ELDER SISTER, MIYA—SHE IS OURS NOW.

DON'T EVER THINK OF COMING TO US FOR REVENGE.

OR HISTORY WILL REPEAT ITSELF.

The letter slipped from her fingers.

Tears streamed down Selena's cheeks, silent and endless.

Outside, fireworks exploded across the sky—brilliant colors bursting into life.

People laughed.

Families hugged.

The world celebrated.

Everyone was happy.

Everyone—

Except Selena.
