The boundless afterglow of the setting sun fell upon the forest, bathing everything in a warm, orange halo. The shadows of all things stretched long.
The world was still, without a single trace of prey. This was proving difficult.
Two children, a boy and a girl about seven or eight years old, were running and flying through the forest. They had been wandering the jungle for some time, apparently searching for food.
Both had long, silver-white hair, purple eyes, and pristine white wings. Their bare feet padded through the mud and gravel of the forest floor, and their wings shed a few feathers now and then as they passed through the tangled branches.
"Look! I caught some fresh prey! A plump wild boar! We'll have something to eat tonight!" The girl, immensely strong, lifted the dead boar with one hand and flew into the sky, smiling triumphantly down at the handsome, young boy on the ground.
