Chapter 97 - Deceiving A Friend

After Queen Talia left, Arthas frowned and said, "I was just guided by the Light, and I discovered that Aunt Talia has a darkness lurking within her. It seems to be feeding on her essence. If left unchecked, not only will my aunt be drained to death, but if that darkness breaks free, it will surely cause tremendous harm. The most terrifying aspect of it is their influence on the mind; physical injuries can be healed, but if the brain is damaged, it's very difficult to cure."

"What! Are you serious?" Varian was taken aback, but still held a hint of doubt.

"Aunt's condition is getting worse, right?" Arthas began to persuade, wanting to gain Varian's approval. Conventional methods would surely not work; he had to take some unusual paths.

"Do you know why the orcs attacked our world?"

"Why?" Varian had always wondered why the orcs invaded, "Wasn't it Medivh who brought them here?"

"That's just one reason; Medivh was controlled by the Burning Legion. I captured orc prisoners and learned something after questioning them. Their homeland was polluted by Fel energy, turning it into a barren, lifeless world. They couldn't survive anymore, which is why they came to invade us." Arthas paused for a moment, allowing the other to digest the information, then continued, "This doesn't excuse their crimes; the crimes they committed are too severe to simply forgive them."

"What does that have to do with my mom?" Varian was somewhat confused; he only knew that orcs were bad news. His own country was destroyed by orcs, his father was killed by orcs, and his citizens became refugees. All of this was the orcs' fault; it was all caused by the orcs, and he hated them immensely.

"I've said it before, the Burning Legion are the true evil. They invaded our world tens of thousands of years ago but failed. The cost was the swirling vortex in the Endless Sea; that was their doing. The orcs are merely their second tools for invasion; their advance forces have already come and are hiding. If we let them lie in wait, it would be a disaster for us. Just think, if the enemy took over Aunt Talia mind and started giving you orders, would you obey? If it told you to sever ties with the Alliance, could you do it? If it commanded you to attack humans, dwarves, and gnomes, would you do it?"

"If it were just a simple invasion, that wouldn't be scary. What's terrifying is that they use disguise to disrupt the relations between human nations, leading us to fight among ourselves and consume our strength to resist their legions. That's the most frightening part." Arthas's expression was serious, and he radiated holy light.

The Light was never purely just or entirely reasonable; it was merely a means, a power, and light is always easier for people to believe in than other powers. Varian fell into contemplation, realizing that there was an astonishing secret behind all of this.

"Then how do we save my mother?"

"I will use the Light to heal her; this Light can only suppress the Fel energy, putting it to sleep to prevent it from harming Aunt. To truly solve it, we must seek help from other ancient races. My plan is to have Aunt Talia stay in Lordaeron temporarily for treatment. There are dragon emissaries by my side, and as long as I help the dragons solve their problems, I can find a way to deal with the demon without harming Aunt. This requires your consent, after all, Aunt is your mother." Arthas laid out his plan, not forgetting to showcase his power. Having dragon emissaries by his side was undoubtedly a show of strength. For most humans, dragons were powerful beings, and being able to collaborate with them was proof of capability.

Varian hesitated for a moment, then nodded in agreement, "Okay, then I will trouble you with my mother."

"No need to thank me; I am not doing this for you, but for the Alliance. Rebuilding the Kingdom of Stormwind will be challenging, and without one less stumbling block, it will be a bit smoother for you." Arthas smiled; the task was actually quite simple and not difficult at all. This was all based on the rewards he earned after risking his life, with many auras surrounding him, making it naturally easier to persuade others.

After chatting for a while longer, Arthas took his leave. He still needed to prepare before embarking on solving the Naga problem. Originally, the red dragons posed a significant issue, but now it was solved by Arthas appearing out of nowhere. Now another problem emerged—the deep-sea Naga, which was quite bothersome.

Danger often accompanies opportunity; Arthas did not view this as a bad thing. Experiencing more now was far better than panicking later when encountering real trouble. He stroked his chin, pondering whether he should start exploiting the nobles? If he could get them to pay and provide efforts for him to cross the sea, that was clearly impossible. Even with extended lifespan as bait, when they calmed down, very few would have the foresight to invest in themselves. Most conservative nobles would stubbornly cling to their wealth, and he would have to figure out a way.

"Hmm? Use dealings with Naga to raid their homes?"

Arthas's eyes lit up; is this unjustly accusing them? Not at all! At least some lords still have twisted interests; the right of the first night! Every commoner getting married must let the lord sleep with the bride for a night, this is the right of the first night. It sounds disgusting; even Arthas feels nauseated. (Note: This is not a thing in WoW lore and pretty sure it's just a myth in real world)

Either don't play, or if they do play, they definitely wouldn't let others play. If lacking strength, that's fine, but if they have power and still willingly wear a green hat, it can only be said to be a bit of a perversion. To put it nicely, it's taking someone else's wife; from a different angle, it's making oneself a cuckold as well?

Just right, the Viscount Lober at the Solliden farmstead is such a disgusting person; taking this opportunity to take him down would be doing a service! I must admit, Arthas is becoming increasingly despicable. He is not at all like a paladin who believes in the Light, he is simply a disgrace among paladins, yes, a disgrace with principles!

Even enslaving the Light can make one a paladin, just like the blood elves, but this leads to some damage and burden on the body from the Light and makes it impossible to use the Light for healing. This results in losing the advantages of being a paladin, who is otherwise quite good except for being short-legged and lacking mobility.

Justice? Arthas never believed in any justice; the big-headed expression is justice, someone else's wife is justice, and someone else's daughter is also justice!
