Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: An Ode To Heterochromia

When Daniel woke that morning, he had a terrible headache. He got up and got dressed as usual. When he got out of his room, he saw his aunt in a large shirt and pajama pants. "Why aren't you at work?" Daniel asked. "Oh, today's a day off. I've been working a lot lately." She replied, "Didn't you leave work early yesterday?" Daniel asked, disappointed. "You're so judgmental for a teenage boy." His aunt said, waving her hand around. She was about to walk off before Daniel asked, "Hey, did dad ever bring any friends around named Michael?" His aunt stopped and hummed for a second as she tried to think back before she answered, "Maybe, I think so. Yeah. This guy I remember because one of his eyes was blue and the other was green. What's that called again?" "Heterochromia," Daniel answered. "Yeah, that's it. He was a little older than what would've been appropriate, but I thought he was hot as hell," she said that, then stood there for a moment, seemingly distracted. "Gross," Daniel said, walking back into his room. He only knew one person who had heterochromia, and it was Ruckus, a crazy homeless person who hung out outside the 7/11. Was it him? Daniel called up Jeffers, "Hey jeffers meet me at the 7/11 i think I found something." "What?" Daniel then realized that he hadn't told Jeffers about the note his parents had left him. He then explained the note and how it told him he needed to stop Dracula and to find Michael. "So anyway, my aunt said that Michael had heterochromia, and who does that sound like?" Daniel ended off. "That homeless guy that's always smoking outside the 7/11!" Jeffers exclaimed. "Exactly. Let's meet there now." Daniel said, "Okay, but I can't be out too long. My parents are pretty pissed about their pots being broken." Jeffers finished off as Daniel hung up, showered, and got dressed.

When Daniel got to the 7/11, Jeffers was already there. They acknowledged each other, then walked to the side to find Ruckus. He was sitting there with a red jacket, smoking cigarettes. He looked at them before saying, "hey I'm Ruckus, I'll kill someone for you if you buy me another pack of cigarettes." This took Daniel and Jeffers by surprise, and Daniel responsibly responded with, "What?" Ruckus coughed before reiterating, "yeah I'll kill anyone. Even that ugly-looking boy next to you." He then turned to Jeffers, "Are you into guys?" He took a puff of his cigarette, "not that it particularly matters to me. Just curious." Daniel and Jeffers were both flabbergasted, but they continued anyway. "Do you know anything about Michael? Is that you? Are you Michael?" Daniel asked. Ruckus then sat up, "No, I'm not Michael dipshit, I'm Ruckus." Jeffers turned to Daniel, looking at him with a drained look. "Well, now that I think about it, maybe you're talking about my brother, Micky. Sometimes people would call him Michael. I love my brother, he gives me beer." Ruckus said as he took a break from puffing that cigarette. Daniel leaned down and asked, "Can you take us to him?" Ruckus coughed and stood up, "might as well. I've got to go over there anyway to steal some bear from his house." He then grinned and looked at Daniel and Jeffers, "I promise I won't touch y'all." "That wasn't really a concern until now," Jeffers said. But Ruckus seemed to pay it no mind and began walking off, and they followed him.

When the ruckus stopped, so did Daniel and Jeffers. They were at a shitty yellow single-story home. "This is it. We're at Mickey's house," Ruckus said. He walked right up to the front door and did a quick knock before just opening the door and walking in. Daniel looked at Jeffers, who shrugged, and they both followed behind Ruckus. "Mickey!" Ruckus shouted. As they walked through, Daniel was constantly stepping over beer bottles. But then Daniel stopped as he saw a picture that had 8 people in it, and three of whom he recognized. Two of which were his mom and dad, who seemed about his age; he had seen some pictures of his parents before from his aunt, but they seemed the happiest in this one, and the third was a seemingly much younger and more in shape Ruckus. Had Ruckus known his parents when they were young? All the people in the photo seemed happy, but he also seemed to notice that his parents weren't hugging each other; in fact, they weren't even really near each other. As Daniel was examining it, he heard a raspy voice from behind him, "holy shit." A jolt went through Daniel's body as he dropped the photo in surprise. Luckily, a hand caught it before it hit the floor. Daniel turned around and saw him holding the photo. A man slightly taller than Daniel, he had blonde, messy hair and an unshaven, uneven beard. His eyes were two different colors as well, the right eye being blue and the left being green. The man stood up and placed the photo back on the stand from which Daniel had gotten it, "I feel like this sort of thing is pretty rude, y'know." The man said, then, as he examined Daniel's face, he took a slight sigh. "You look just like her." He mumbled. "Are you Michael?" Jeffers asked. The man turned to Jeffers, "Yes, I am Michael, though you've probably heard my brother call me Mickey. Don't call me that. Wait, why are you here?" He said to Jeffers, "I get why this one's here," he said, waving towards Daniel, "but who are you?" Jeffers gulped as if he were concerned for his safety. "What do you mean, I look just like her?" Daniel asked. Michael turned to Daniel, "Your mom. You look just like Danielle." Michael then grumbled and walked through the house and into the living room. When Daniel and Jeffers walked through the kitchen to get to the living room, they saw Ruckus grabbing beers out of the fridge. Michael sat down on the one chair in his living room. Daniel turned his head to make eye contact with Michael and said, "Look, my parents wrote me a note saying I have superpowers and I need to defeat Dracula, but the note also specified to seek you out." Michael rubbed his beard for a second before stating, "They probably wanted me to train you." he hummed to himself for a second, "I refuse, of course." Daniel stood for a moment in shock and asked, "What?" "Well, you see, I'm done hunting vampires. I spent my whole childhood fighting them, and I was the best at it, but I'm old and tired now. I just want to sit here and drink all day until I hopefully die." Michael said. The pressure in the air was palpable. Jeffers was set to intervene, but before that, Daniel said, "Let's just go, Jeffers," and both of them left with only a disappointed expression on both of their faces.
