Chapter 1 - Prologue: The Offer of the Goddess Myriam

Rafael's death was anything but epic.

No monsters, no magic, no heroic sacrifices.

Just a plane plummeting down and a very Venezuelan final thought:

"Damn… is this really how I'm going to die?"

When he opened his eyes, there was no more fire, chaos, or blue sky pierced by metal.

There was a completely golden room, filled with soft light that seemed to float on the air itself.

The floor reflected like liquid crystal, and a sweet aroma, like night blooming flowers, filled the air.

—Where the hell am I? —he muttered, slowly getting up.

A sound similar to the tinkling of bells appeared behind him.

When he turned around, his brain simply said: okay, I don't have enough data to process this.

Standing before him was a divine woman, impossible to describe with human logic:

Pure golden hair, floating as if it were underwater.

Sky blue eyes, shining like living gems.

Pale skin with a warm glow.

And the strangest thing: wings that looked like an insect's, transparent, iridescent, as if they were both butterfly and dragonfly wings moving with a supernatural grace.

The woman smiled, and the whole air vibrated.

—Welcome, Rafael. —Her voice sounded like the echo of bells—. My name is Myriam, goddess of the fairies.

Rafael looked at her for two seconds and then said the only thing that came to mind:

—Am I… dead?

—Yes —she replied quite naturally—. Quite squashed, in fact.

—…Thank you for your honesty…

The goddess clasped her hands, bowing her head slightly.

—I brought you here to offer you an opportunity: to reincarnate in another world. One full of magic, ancient races, floating kingdoms, and wondrous creatures.

Rafael raised an eyebrow.

—Just like that? Without a tutorial? Without a suspicious contract?

—Just like that —she repeated, imitating his tone and laughing.

He took a deep breath.

He was dead, yes… but at that offer, an inevitable smile appeared on his face.

—Well… I'm in right away —he said without thinking much—. Where do I sign?

The goddess snapped her fingers in satisfaction.

—Perfect. But there's a small… detail.

That was when Rafael sensed the danger.

That "detail" sounded like a divine trap, like something a secret chief would pull.

—Okay… shoot.

Myriam approached, and each step made the golden floor shine even more.

—I want you to temporarily take my place as High Fairy Deity.

Rafael blinked ten times, just in case he had misheard.

—Excuse me… what?

—I'm tired —she said softly, almost sadly—. I haven't rested, haven't slept, haven't experienced the human pleasure of simply closing my eyes and disappearing for a few hours.

I want to… try that.

Rafael tried to process it.

—So… am I some kind of divine babysitter?

—Exactly.

—What if I ruin it?

—You can't. —The goddess gently touched his forehead.— I will give you my power, my divine instincts, and automatic guidance. Just maintain the balance of faerie magic while I sleep.

Rafael swallowed hard.

—Does that mean I can have wings like those? —he said, pointing at the insect like wings.

Myriam smiled dangerously.

—Yes. Among other… advantages.

The boy raised a hand.

—Then… deal. I'll cover your shift, boss.

Myriam's eyes shone with infinite relief.

—Thank you, Rafael. When you wake up… you will no longer be human.

The light enveloped him, warm and ethereal.

—Damn, I hope I don't get stuck being a little fairy, okay! —Rafael managed to say.

Myriam laughed as he faded away.

—That will depend on what kind of god you want to be…

— The First Morning of a Fairy Deity —

The transition was not smooth.

There was no peaceful awakening, no angelic music, no scent of flowers.

Rafael simply switched on like a spotlight in a whirlwind of light, and then…

BOOM!

She fell face down on wet ground.

—Ugh… what the hell…? —she muttered, spitting out leaves.

When she opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was a sky covered by trees with black trunks and canopies so dense they barely let any light through.

The air was cold, heavy, almost thick, and the distant calls of creatures that were clearly not birds chilled her to the bone.

—Where did this crazy woman leave me…? —she said as she sat up.

Then she looked at her hands… and stopped breathing.

They weren't her hands.

They were slender, elegant, with long fingers, and a silvery light ran through their veins like threads of liquid moonlight.

Then she noticed something else:

her chest was moving in a way that was… quite new.

—Uh-huh… wait… —Rafaela put both hands to her chest

—NOOOOOO, WAIT… what is this huge thing?

Her arms trembled as she tried to steady herself.

Then she noticed her round hips, her narrow waist, her long legs, and her hair… oh god, her hair.

It cascaded down to her thighs, pure silver with iridescent reflections.

And behind her back… something vibrated.

ZWWWWNNN

A pair of transparent wings, similar to those of a giant dragonfly, unfurled like rainbow reflections.

—GODDESS MYRIAM, WHAT DID YOU DO?! —she shouted to the sky, her voice now soft, feminine, and exaggeratedly sensual

—I said I agreed to cover your shift, not that you would turn me into a hot fairy!

The forest responded with a distant, deep roar, like that of a beast that measured seven meters.

Rafaela swallowed hard.

—Okay… that sound wasn't friendly. Wait… shouldn't I have divine guidance or something?

No sooner had she said that than a blue flash floated in front of her.

A small luminous sphere emerged, spun a couple of times, and took the form of a mini holographic fairy.

—Welcome, Rafaela. Initiating Divine Fairy Assistance protocol.

The voice was sweet, mechanical, and slightly mocking.

—Thank God. —Rafaela sighed— Look, guide, explain—

—By the way, her current registered name is: Rafaela, Primary Fairy Deity — Temporary Executive Status.

—…No. I refuse. Rafaela? Why feminine?

—Because she now has a female body —the guide replied with brutal honesty—. And Myriam thought it would be fun to see how she handled it.

Rafaela gritted her teeth.

—I'm going to kill that goddess when she wakes up…

—Highly unlikely: her current stats are approximately 0.00000003% of Myriam's.

—…

—But she can try when she evolves.

—Okay, guide, before I have a heart attack:

what do I have to do as a fairy deity?

The guide projected a light panel filled with symbols and dancing lines.

—Its primary function is simple: to maintain the fairy balance in this region.

—Balance of what?

—Of life, magic, ecosystems, lesser creatures, and natural mana flows.

—And how do I do that?

—By improvising.

—WHAT KIND OF ANSWER IS THAT?!

The guide floated slightly forward.

—This is the Abyssal Forest, one of the oldest and most dangerous areas of the Material Faerie Realm. It is inhabited by:

Luminous hydras

Shadow manticores

Spore Dragons

Titans of the root

Deep sea gremlins

Primordial beasts that have forgotten to die

Rafaela paled.

—And why did they send me, newly transformed, to "keep balanced" a place full of monsters that sound like final bosses?

The guide (figuratively) snapped her fingers.

—Because you are a Primary Fairy Deity. You can control them, calm them, purify them, or… destroy them if necessary.

—Oh yeah? And how do I do that? With a tutorial? With the Being a Goddess for Dummies manual?

The guide approached and touched her forehead with a blue glow.

—Let's check her new status first.

A giant panel appeared:

📜 State of Rafaela — Fairy Deity (Temporary)

Height: 1.90 m

Rafaela swallowed.

—Well… this doesn't sound so bad… I think…

—I recommend you stand up. Something is coming. Something big.

Rafaela heard a creaking sound. Then another. The treetops began to vibrate.

A gigantic shadow moved among the tree trunks.

—Guide…

—Yes, Rafaela.

—Is that a…?

—An Alpha Spore Dragon.

—What do I do?

—Improvise.

—NO WAY!

The ground shook.

And just like that, Rafaela had her first "workday" as a substitute deity… facing a beast that could eat a whole truck.
