propose

In the city of Mumbai, three siblings lived together in a small house—Veer, Ravi, and Veera. Veer was the eldest, and Veera was the youngest. Their parents had passed away in an accident during their childhood, and since then, Veer had been the one taking care of them. He balanced both his college and his home responsibilities. Veer worked a part-time job at a small hotel owned by Kabir Uncle, a friend of his late father. Because of this connection, Veer earned a decent wage and had enough flexibility for his college schedule.

One day, while Veer was at college, he realized how much he liked a girl named Neha. Veer knew his priority was to educate his siblings and stand on his own feet, but he felt that if he kept his feelings hidden for another year, he would always regret it. So, he made up his mind to propose to Neha that day. As soon as Neha entered the classroom, Veer quickly pulled a chocolate out of his bag.

He went up to her and said, "Neha, Neha... I really like you." Hearing this, Neha looked shocked for a moment, but then she and the entire class burst out laughing loudly. Laughing mockingly, Neha said, "Do you really think I would say yes to a guy like you who doesn't even have money to buy books? And what did you bring? A chocolate! Who could ever love such a poor person? By the way, your name is Veer, right? You probably don't know this, but do you know what name you're famous by in the whole class? They call you 'Beggar'! And you have the nerve to propose to me?"

Hearing this, Veer's self-confidence shattered. He had no idea that the girl he liked could be so toxic; otherwise, he wouldn't have even looked at her, let alone proposed. Overwhelmed with shame, Veer picked up his bag and walked out. Upon reaching home, he got ready and immediately left for work.

Later that day:

It was time for Ravi to return home. Ravi was in his first year of college and Veera was in the 11th grade, so both of them usually arrived home in the afternoon. Veera would be back by 5:00 PM. As soon as Ravi got home, he would start studying, while Veer would head out for work. Veer wanted to drop out of his studies to work more, but Kabir Uncle wouldn't let him. Veer respected his father's friend immensely, so he could never say no to him.

As soon as he reached work, he asked Kabir Uncle, "Uncle, when will my friend return? There hasn't been a single call or message." Uncle replied, "What can I say, Veer? I thought since you're his best friend, he'd be talking to you on the phone. But if even you are saying this, it means your friend has forgotten us."

With full confidence, Veer said, "No Uncle, he might forget you for a moment, but he could never forget me!" Uncle teased him, saying, "Oh, sure, sure... that's exactly why he hasn't contacted you." Veer replied, "No Uncle, he must be busy with something; that's why he hasn't found the time."
