Chapter 27 - The Picture

Jay's POV

I was almost ready for school when my phone buzzed.

Unknown number.

I opened it without thinking.

And everything inside me stopped.

A picture filled my screen.

Keifer.

The place around him looked unfamiliar—glass walls, city lights reflected behind him.

London.

A woman stood close to him, close enough to make my chest ache.

Her hand rested on him like she had every right to be there.

The space between them was too small. Too personal.

My fingers trembled.

Another message followed.

Taken in London.

You deserved to know.

London.

The time he was away.

The time I stayed back.

The time I was alone here, hoping for an explanation.

Telling myself there had to be one.

Believing there was something he would eventually say.

Just this morning, he had cooked for me.

Called me Mrs. Watson.

Smiled like I was the only thing that mattered.

My throat burned.

I placed the phone down slowly, afraid my hands would drop it.

I didn't cry.

I didn't message him.

I picked up my bag, slipped my phone inside, and took one last look at my reflection.

I had school to go to.

And somehow, I had to act like nothing happened

But inside its killing me
