Chapter 75 - CHAPTER 75 : terms

They didn't rush it.

That was the first decision.

No sudden statement. No reaction to pressure.

Only timing.

Ha-rin sat at the table, her phone in front of her.

On.

For once.

Not scrolling.

Not reacting.

Just… ready.

"…If I speak now," she said, "…it looks like I'm responding to them."

"Yes," I replied.

"…And if I wait too long."

"They will define the narrative."

She nodded.

"…So I need to speak before they do."

"Yes."

Her father leaned forward slightly.

"…Then we control the form," he said.

"…Not an interview," her mother added immediately.

"…No," Ha-rin said. "…I'm not doing that."

My mother nodded.

"…Interviews invite manipulation."

"That is accurate."

"…Then what," her father asked.

Ha-rin looked at her phone.

Thinking.

Not hesitating.

"…A statement," she said.

"…Written," she added. "…Clear. Direct."

"That limits interpretation," my father said.

"Yes."

Silence followed.

Not uncertain.

Just… refining.

"…No apology," she said suddenly.

Everyone looked at her.

"…I'm not apologizing for this."

Her mother studied her.

"…Good."

My mother nodded.

"…Apologies suggest wrongdoing."

"Yes," I said.

"…And this isn't that."

"…No details," Ha-rin continued.

"…No unnecessary explanation."

"That protects you," her father said.

"Yes."

"…And no timing promise," she added.

"…I'm not committing to anything I can't control."

"That is reasonable," I replied.

She leaned back slightly.

Thinking.

Then—

"…And I say it once."

Silence.

"…No follow-ups," she said.

"…No clarification rounds."

"…No answering speculation."

My father nodded.

"…That prevents escalation."

"…They'll still push," her mother said.

"Yes."

"…Then I don't respond."

She said it simply.

Like it was already decided.

A pause.

Then—

"…What about him," her father asked, glancing at me.

Ha-rin didn't hesitate.

"…He stays out of it."

Silence.

I looked at her.

She met my gaze.

"…This is my statement," she said.

"Yes," I replied.

"…I don't want you dragged into it."

"That is not a concern."

"It is to me."

Silence.

Then—

"…Understood," I said.

She nodded.

That was enough.

She picked up her phone.

Unlocked it.

Opened a blank page.

Didn't type.

Not yet.

"…Once I write this," she said, "…there's no going back."

"No," I replied.

"…Good."

She set the phone down again.

Not ready yet.

But close.

Later—

She stood by the window.

As always.

But this time—

Not thinking about what might happen.

Thinking about what she would say.

"…I'm not doing this for them," she said.

"No."

"…I'm doing this because I've already decided."

"Yes."

She turned slightly.

Looked at me.

"…And I'm not changing that."

"No."

The statement wasn't written yet.

But it already existed.
