Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: When the Beast Shows Its Fangs

"ROAR !"

A deep, beastlike growl echoed from within the thick cloud of dust.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

Heavy footsteps followed, each one pounding like a drumbeat against the heart.

When Jason emerged from the smoke once more, Fushimi Kyo's eyes narrowed slightly.

Two blue Kōkaku Kagune had unfolded from Jason's back, their surfaces gleaming like layered armor. His crimson kakugan locked firmly onto Kyo, brimming with bloodlust.

"Hehehe… hahahahaha!"

"You really are the best!"

"Let me plunder you to my heart's content!"

Jason roared viciously.

The instant his words fell, one of his Kagune lashed out like a descending whip from the clouds, crashing straight toward Kyo's head.

Kyo's body swayed lightly just a few subtle movements and he effortlessly avoided the strike.

In the next moment, he accelerated at full speed, charging straight toward Jason.

"Die!"

"Die!"

"Die!"

Jason chanted madly, his two Kagune whipping wildly like twin dragons, completely filling the space in front of him.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Unfinished concrete pillars nearby shattered like rotten tofu, reduced to rubble by the violent blows.

Yet despite the ferocity of the assault

Not a single attack landed on Kyo.

Even without drawing Bloodsong, Kyo relied purely on his enhanced physique. His movements were fluid and precise, dodging every strike perfectly while rapidly closing the distance between them.

"Damn it DIE!"

The longer the fight dragged on, the more alarmed Jason became.

This kid wasn't human.

His strength alone surpassing Jason was one thing but his speed was even more terrifying, far beyond Jason's expectations.

Since the fight began, Jason hadn't even managed to touch him.

With a furious snarl, Jason used one Kagune to rip up a chunk of concrete pillar and hurled it straight at Kyo.

Kyo suddenly bent backward into a deep arch, the massive pillar whistling past just inches above his hair.

Before he could straighten up, Jason's other Kagune struck in a continuous follow-up.

Kyo twisted aside, narrowly dodging, then suddenly grabbed the attacking Kagune with both hands.

With Kyo as the center, he spun violently.

An unbelievable scene unfolded.

Jason who prided himself on raw strength was lifted clean off the ground and hurled away.

BOOM!

His body smashed into a wall, instantly covering half of it with spiderweb-like cracks.

On another rooftop nearby, Touka Kirishima, who had been secretly observing, stared in shock, her mouth slightly open.

"How is this possible…?"

"He's completely overpowering Jason with just physical strength?!"

Just the night before, Rize had described her battle with Kyo in detail at the Anteiku café, clearly stating that in a direct clash of power, Kyo had been at a disadvantage.

Yet now barely a day later his strength had surpassed even Jason's.

And when it came to raw physical power alone, Jason far exceeded Rize.

Rize only held the advantage in speed and Kagune versatility.

In the distance, Jason staggered back to his feet.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

He snapped three fingers in succession, letting out a hoarse, enraged howl.

"I'll kill you!"

"I'll kill you!"

"I'll tear you into minced meat chew every last piece!"

Red Kagune began surging upward, spreading toward his head until his entire skull and upper body were wrapped within it.

Realizing he could no longer win, Jason decisively chose half-kakuja transformation.

His legs bent deeply, like compressed springs pushed to their absolute limit.

Then

His body launched forward like a cannonball.

His speed more than doubled.

Facing the ferocious charge, Kyo didn't retreat in the slightest.

Instead, he rushed forward to meet him head-on.

BAM! BAM! BAM!

The two collided in a brutal exchange fist against fist, flesh against flesh.

After three system enhancements, Kyo's body now revealed its terrifying resilience. Even when Jason's punches landed, the damage was minimal, and his monstrous recovery ability erased injuries almost instantly.

In close-quarters combat, Kyo was actually gaining the upper hand.

"Hahahaha!"

"Feels amazing, this is amazing!"

"This is what real combat is!"

Kyo roared in exhilaration.

With another heavy collision, both fighters were forced back.

From afar, watching their savage fighting styles, Touka's expression grew grim.

"Two lunatics…"

Jason was insane by nature.

But seeing the usually gentle, easygoing Kyo display such ferocity completely shattered Touka's understanding of him.

What she found most incomprehensible was this

How could a human body be stronger than an S-rank ghoul?

It was utterly absurd.

On the battlefield, both sides paused momentarily.

Jason spread his arms wide, breathing heavily, huffing like a beast.

After the intense exchange, the madness in his eyes had faded, replaced by deep caution.

"I've already gone all out…"

"And he's still suppressing me barehanded."

"If he were holding a Quinque…"

The thought alone sent a chill down Jason's spine.

It reminded him of that reaper-like man among the CCG's Special Class Investigators.

"Who the hell are you?"

"What's your relationship with Rize?"

Even now, Jason remained obsessed with her whereabouts.

It spoke volumes about how fanatically loyal he was to the Aogiri Tree.

Just as he once said to Kaneki in the original story:

"Anyone who stands in Aogiri's way, human or ghoul will be eliminated."

Not far away, Touka pricked up her ears as well, eager for the answer.

Kyo let out a soft chuckle.

"Me? Just an ordinary human."

"It's just that my instincts tell me killing you will bring me a lot of benefits."

"As for Rize?"

"I've got no idea where she is."

"She's probably hiding in some corner, enjoying a nice human feast."

"Killing me will bring you benefits…?"

Jason frowned inwardly.

This guy's words made no sense at all.

"Alright," Kyo continued calmly.

"I've played with you long enough."

"This should be your limit, right?"

"Next "

"I'm getting serious."

"Be careful."

"You might actually die."

With that, Kyo willed it

And the Katana, Bloodsong, appeared out of thin air in his hand.

That impossible sight caused both Jason and Touka's pupils to shrink at the same time.

The same question echoed in their minds:

Where did that sword come from?
