Chapter 67 - Chapter 67

This chapter is short because it seems the content of the first half was deleted, and a poll about chastity belts was posted instead, so I guess the chapter was a bit too intense.

Martin Luther King Jr. walked slowly toward the Lincoln Memorial.

Below him stood countless Black people, along with some white people who sympathized with the Black community and anti-racist activists.

He looked down, lost in thought.

This was the movement launched by Martin Luther King Jr.—

"March for Freedom!"

"March for Freedom!"

the Black crowd shouted.

"Today, I am happy to join with you in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation,"

King said.

Then, he began a famous speech destined to be etched into history.

"One hundred years ago, a great American signed the Emancipation Proclamation, and today we gather before his statue. This momentous decree came as a great beacon of hope to millions of enslaved people who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyful dawn to end the long night of captivity for Black Americans…"

"I have a dream…" Catherine murmured as she watched the television program.

A tiny butterfly cannot change history.

Today was August 23.

It was also a day destined to become one of the most important in American history.

Thanks to the efforts of Martin Luther King Jr., the Civil Rights Act would be passed the following year.

Katherine turned off the television and took a deep breath.

Since starting high school, she had applied for homeschooling, essentially giving up on attending school in the traditional sense.

In the United States, especially at the high school level, not attending school wasn't a huge issue. In fact, some students were homeschooled without ever setting foot in a high school, but applying to college was much harder—it required high SAT scores and plenty of extracurricular activities. Homeschooling offered much more freedom in both time and subjects, but it was expensive. Money, however, was not a concern for her.

Katherine felt that as long as she passed the SAT, college wouldn't really be a problem.

Moreover, the academic pressure at elite American high schools wasn't much lighter than that of Chinese high school students in the 21st century. Students like Lisa didn't focus much on their studies, so getting into college would be difficult for them. Jenny, on the other hand, had excellent grades.

Katherine was now thinking about the Harry Potter book she had completely reworked.

Harry Potter was outstanding, especially after the release of The Goblet of Fire.

To better suit American tastes, Catherine had made numerous changes—for example, she broke up the relationship between Hermione and Ron.

However, she was now considering films rather than novels.

A Harry Potter movie… seemed like a good idea.

Catherine had been pondering this for quite some time,

especially after realizing that the Crysis adaptation had run into a problem: fitting contemporary American aesthetics could be extremely difficult.

Still, she had no clear idea.

But she quickly found a solution.

She made a call to Mexico.

Eastwood was working hard to prove himself on a film set.

Author's Note:

"I Have a Dream" is a true classic and always deeply inspiring. Although I have some reservations about Black people, I must say that Martin Luther King Jr. was a great man.

Also, I conducted a rather controversial poll about chastity belts…
