Savannah's POV
"Savannah?"
"I think I'm about to be sick!"
His grip didn't loosen. Instead, he pressed his face against my spine and went completely still. The quiet stretched between us like a weight crushing down on my chest. My heart hammered so hard I thought it might burst while my fingers started turning purple from lack of circulation.
When he finally spoke, his words crawled across my skin like ice.
"I won't harm you, Savannah."
A bitter laugh escaped me. Even between lovers, nobody could make that kind of promise. During rut, alphas lose all sense of reason and become pure predators. His sweet words were just bait to make the hunt easier.
"Really. I have feelings for you."
"Go to hell!"
"I mean it. I screwed this up badly, I get that, but it doesn't change how I feel."
