Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: JETSTAR JETSTREAM

[The Empire of Starnova

Central state: Starwind

City: Eos]

JETSTAR JETSTREAM

Boring, Mundane, Dull. All three of those words are often said not as a compliment but as a critique or an insult to someone or something. A TV series being boring is not a positive critique, and being called dull as a person is offensive.

Most people in general like to think of themselves as interesting. No one likes to be called boring.

However, personally, I never cared whenever I was referred to as such. Being called boring may be a critique of my personality or character traits I have no issues with that.

I am completely fine with being mundane and a boring person, I was fine with it in my past life and I am fine with it now.

This might not be true, or at least its not verifiable but I truly believe that boring people are the ones who live the longest.

I do not need to be considered a person who is fun to be around, as I see no reason to attend house parties or go to the club just to get drunk and either be stabbed or shot because someone did not have the self-control to let an insult go.

Nor do I need to go camping as a hobby, who wants to be bear food or become the victim of a snake bite.

I don't wish to attend concerts or drag race events, Nobody likes a stuffy and crowded area filled with nothing but noise and body odor, and worse of all dying because of a crowd stampede. None of that was on my to do list

I'm not saying doing any of those things is bad or wrong, people are free to live how they like but I want to live how I like as well and thus don't need to participate in any of the so call "fun" activities.

In my past life on Earth, so many people died, neighbours and classmates died because they thought about having a little fun just so someone wouldn't call them boring or uninteresting.

I don't need to be interesting to live my life, being boring served me well in my last life and the only reason I died was simply because nature said "fuck you" and gave me cancer but honestly, I don't regret anything.

Now I get to live again, in a new world that's different but somehow similar to Earth but even on this planet called Astraeus, I don't plan to waste my life chasing the idea of being interesting or a fun person.

I am completely fine with the idea that the only interesting thing about me is the fact that five years ago I woke up in a body that's not my own, and I've essentially hijacked someone's life but that's fine with me.

I have already resolved to live my life in this world, the same way I lived on earth, boring and predictable.

"Its cool that everyone in this world has the ability to fly tho"

A whisper escapes my mouth as I floated above the city, my eyes appreciating the beautiful city skyline for the umpteenth time since I awoke to this world.

I floated slightly above the city, away from the normal everyday folk that floated on the street level, going about their day.

The scene was much like how the streets of New York or Tokyo would be filled with people going about their day. The only difference was that the people were not walking and there was no road or sidewalk.

I've long become used to the fact that the city's skyline is typically above the clouds, and being about 40-60 meters off the ground was considered being on the street.

"Hmm"

I hummed curiously, my mind considering dropping my altitude closer to the solid ground. As I said, people are about 40-60 meters above ground. Right now, I'm 80 meters above ground, which is technically reserved for cars.

It is considered dangerous for me to be floating around here, however cars are incredibly rare and the only people who use them are they type that need assistance in flying, like the elderly or disabled.

So I was relatively safe, of course if a police man saw me they might make a fuss about it.

Once done with my gazing at the cityscape, I turned my gaze down and looked at the bustling city of people floating about, some of them floating straight into taverns or bars, others returning to their homes or apartments and others getting out of fast food restaurants.

Every individual I could see had a different skin color, red, green, blue, cream white and pitch black.

This world's people were not confined to just being different shades of wheat, there was more variety when it came to both skin color and hair color, which was as varied as skin color.

It was certainly an interesting world, with interesting things to see, but looking for interesting things was a quick way to die, and I didn't want that anytime soon.

And considering the typical lifespan for an Astraesian which seems to be 150 to 200 years and depending on your life style it's possible to stretch that to 250.

I plan to to live as long as I am able to maybe have a wife and kids, Joys I never managed to have in my last life, mainly due to a lack of trying on my part, plus I wasn't exactly a social butterfly.

Although in this world monogamous relationships weren't really popular, it's also why I'm not eager to start dating despite being in this world for five years.

"Anyway back on topic"

I whispered once more, reminding myself to descend down lower than 40 meters and see what the actual ground looks like.

I haven't really thought about my feet touching the real solid ground ever since I woke up in this world, with the exception being the floor of my own home.

However I do make it a point to walk around the house or any building I'm in, something the average… well may be not all Astraesians but I do know that the average citizen of the Starnovian Empire doesn't walk much.

Anyway, I chose to stray from my typical routine of going straight home after my usual daily flight. which was the only thing exciting in my current life. Although it's fun, it's more like a walk than anything else.

I decided to descend towards the ground, paying careful attention not to bump into anyone as I did so.

I also kept my eyes and senses open in case some idiot thinks flying at 50 km/h in the street area is a good idea, although male Astraesians boast a greater durability than the females, its still not worth risking.

Luckily, nothing bad happened, and I am able to slowly descend without issue.

You'd think there'd be people curious about what I'm doing, but by the looks of it, they aren't interested.

I mean, it makes sense, this is the equivalent of walking into a dark alley. Nobody gives a shit about things like that.

As I slowly go down, the atmosphere changed slightly, it became a bit warmer and the city lights slowly began dim down a bit making it difficult to see, There was still some visibility however it felt odd not being able to see the ground.

"I guess it makes sense. There's little lighting on this level, I doubt anyone lives down here"

I continue to whisper while going further down, and the deeper I descend, the darker it gets, further making it difficult to see.

Luckily, I had my phone with me, I retrieved out my jacket and turned on the flashlight, which allowed me to get a much better view of the place.

The first thing that came to my notice was the grassy smell of plants, then I noticed there were vines and moss clinging to the various intersecting drainage pipes as well as the walls.

It was like seeing an abandoned building in the woods, with an added feeling of creepiness and dread. It felt like something would jump out at me from within the darkeness.

"I guess no one comes here, so it's pointless to allocate funds to have the area cleaned"

Makes sense, I suppose, The next thing I noticed was a stray gryphon dog eating a what looked dead winged rodent

A gryphon dog is just a dog with eagle wings, nothing like an actual gryphon from fantasy on earth.

Another thing about this world is that a majority of the land animals can either jump really high and land back down without receiving fall damage, or they'll have wings to fly.

Although from what I've seen, it's only the humanoids of Astraeus that are able to fly without wings, and that makes us special, I guess.

As I was satiating my curiosity and considering flying down deeper and actually touching the ground, my curiosity and general good mood was interrupted by a sudden banshee like cry for help.

It pierced my ears, and scraped on my ear drums like nails on a chalk board

"Help!!"

the feminine voice shrieked, her plea an unpleasant assault to my ears, forcing my body to tense up, nearly dropping my phone.

"Fucking Hell! no one's supposed to be here"

I whispered to myself as I clutched my pearls in both shock and surprise. That was no doubt a cry for help and it was a woman as well.

"HELP!!"

The voice tore through the air once more this time sounding much louder and more desperate than before, it was another assault to my ears however this time I could tell where the voice came from.

My first instinct was to turn and shine the flashlight of my phone towards the direction of the voice however….

I hesitated
