Chapter 2 - There’s Always Tomorrow

Laying down on his bed, Thomas stared at the ceiling. His day had been quite shitty. First his girlfriend dumped him saying that he wasn't taking her seriously. On top of that, his exams at school had wrecked his brain, rendering him incapable of thinking properly anymore.

Ring

He glanced over at his nightstand where his phone was charging. Sitting up to see who was calling him, he noticed it was his mom. She probably wanted to know how his exams had gone.

Debating on whether he wanted to answer or not, he gave a big sigh before plopping back down on his bed. His parents would be home soon anyways and he would rather not repeat himself again.

Closing his eyes, he could still see all of the jumbled words and numbers that made up his exam. A bunch of fluff he would never need in the real world was his mindset. Why should he stress himself over grades that wouldn't make up his life anyways.

His parents made enough to put him into a good college even if he had bad grades. Not that he did, but what was the point in struggling for top marks if he could just coast toward university anyways.

So what if his girlfriend broke up with him, there was always another fish in the sea. He had been planning on breaking up with her before uni anyways.

She was a pretty girl, but not a keeper for him. There was truth in her reasoning that Thomas didn't take her seriously. He truly didn't. He enjoyed spending time with her, but not to the point of ever initiating dates or making her feel loved.

Ring

His phone continued to ring, filling the silence that engulfed his room. Glancing at his phone again, he debated answering. His mom usually would call him to ask about school and such, so after a short internal debate he chose to sleep again.

Buzz

As Thomas closed his eyes, his phone buzzed. Probably just his mother leaving a voicemail. It was something he could check later or ask her when she got home.

His stomach growled, it seemed that the exams had done more than just scramble his brain.

Opening his eyes again, he stared at his ceiling. Even the texture reminding him of food. Sighing, he grabbed his phone before unlocking it.

His mom had sent a text message instead of leaving a voicemail. Saying that his dad and her would not be making it for dinner and that there were leftovers in the fridge when he got hungry.

Great, just what he wanted. Leftover pizza that he would have to reheat but would still turnout greasier than a frying pan.

Sighing again, he resigned himself to his fate. He swung his legs over the edge and placed his face on his palms. Yawning while wiping his face he stood up ready to warm up this pizza.

The door creaked as it opened, he was ready to leave this old house. It had been in the family for generations, but to Thomas it was just old and dusty. The whole interior screamed musty grandpa and he was sick of it.

Walking downstairs, silence and darkness engulfed the house. It was preferable this way. That way he could eat his pizza and watch anime in peace tonight. Even if his day had been shitty, that didn't mean he couldn't find some peace at the end.

Opening the fridge, Thomas grabbed the pizza box before cracking it open. There were 4 pieces left and it was a toss up between two slices of beef or cheese. What was he kidding, he knew was going to eat all 4 anyways.

Chuckling to himself, he grabbed a plate and threw the pizza in the microwave when his phone started buzzing in his pocket.

Slipping his phone out he glanced downwards and saw it was his friend James calling. His finger hovered over the accept button for a second as he debated answering.

"Hey James, what's up man."

"Yo yo yo, my man. What's good bro. Heard about you and Jessica man. That's tough. You good?"

"Yeah bro, I'm good. It was for the best anyways. I'm not too hung up about it."

James laughed over the phone before he spoke again.

"Aye bro, you don't have to lie to me. How about this, to cheer you up, why don't you slide through. I got some beers and we can turn on the game."

Thomas's thoughts began calculating whether he wanted to get wasted or watch the new episode of his favorite anime. It wasn't a hard choice.

"Damn bro, you should've called me like 15 minutes ago. I just made dinner and got my show ready. Maybe this weekend?"

"Yeah man, no problem bro. I'll hit you up Friday, let me know what's up then. We can throw a kickback or something."

The microwave beeped.

"Sounds good bro, I'm going to let you go though. My food just got done and my show is calling my name."

"Alright bro, catch you later."

"Yup, talk to you tomorrow."

Hanging up the phone, a smile was on Thomas's face. James was a good friend, always checking up on him. Making sure he was straight.

Shaking his head as he trekked back up the stairs with dinner in tow, he couldn't help but wonder why his parents were gone tonight.

Closing his door and clicking the episode, the final thought on Thomas's mind was that there was always tomorrow to answer today's questions.
