Chapter 1 - Prologue

The cold hit her first. Not the kind that made you shiver this cold settled inside her bones. Slow and deliberate, like the breath of something ancient.

She couldn't move, that was the next thing. A sharp ache in her temple throbbed in sync with her heartbeat.

The air was thick with disinfectant, she could smell, sterile, chemical and too clean for a place that felt wrong. Above her a single light turned, suspended from the ceiling by a rusted arm. There was no wind. She was underground or something like it.

Then she realized, she shouldn't have agreed in the first place. Her head throbbed faster as she recalled the every sip of wine she tasted — and now, she wasn't sure. She didn't remember anything except walk back home with a full blown grin. So the man she loved—had he betrayed her?
