Chapter 61 That thing is really uncomfortable.
With his armor protecting him, Tony was no longer intimidated. He quickly rushed to Black Widow's side, grabbed the waving energy whip without a word, and turned to Natasha and the bystander Happy, saying,
"Alright, leave this to me. You guys go find a safe place."
Then, turning back to the disgruntled Ivan Vanko, he said in a deep voice, "Although I don't know where you stole my technology from, the game is over."
As he spoke, he forcefully tugged at the energy whip, but embarrassingly...
it didn't budge.
The Mark V was a lightweight armor, simple and convenient, but it sacrificed its power. Fortunately, Tony was never just about brute force; the development of new elements allowed him to use energy without so much restraint.
Instantly, his chest glowed, and an energy cannon shot directly blasted Ivan away, leaving him lying on the ground, his life hanging in the balance.
The venue erupted in deafening cheers again, everyone shouting 'Iron Man'. For the Stark Expo, this was a failed opening ceremony.
But for Tony's Iron Man, it was a successful personal showcase.
To prevent any accidents, Tony immediately went to Ivan's side, grabbed the small arc reactor from his chest, and the two energy whips, deprived of their power supply, finally dimmed.
Looking at the scan results in his hand, Tony was somewhat surprised. Just then, Ivan, who had luckily withstood an energy blast with his remaining armor, woke up, coughing up blood, and grinning at Tony, saying, "Stark, you lost."
"You lost!"
Tony didn't say anything, only frowned at Ivan Vanko, crushing the slightly modified small arc reactor in his hand.
With the danger over, the security guards and guards, eager to prove themselves, rushed onto the stage, as if they had subdued Ivan.
"Mr. Stark, shall we take him away?"
the person in charge asked cautiously, looking at the silent Tony. After such a major incident, the subsequent security arrangements would inevitably be investigated.
"Hmm!"
Tony, whose mind wasn't on the matter, responded, glancing at Ivan, who was being carried away, spitting blood while laughing and cursing, before turning and leaving the venue.
Finney, mingling in the crowd, watched everything unfold. Today's unexpected turn of events was something he hadn't anticipated. He had interfered too much in Tony's life, and he couldn't predict what would happen.
Watching Ivan Vanko being taken away, Finney felt conflicted. The plot had already changed; he wasn't sure if Ivan would still be rescued by Hammer Industries.
"Keep an eye on Skye for now, don't let her go out recklessly,"
Finney thought silently. However, regardless, Ivan's primary target was definitely Tony. His revenge was aimed at the entire Stark family, including Tony's company and assets.
This was probably why he hadn't killed Tony immediately; he wanted perfect revenge, to destroy everything Tony had.
The opening ceremony continued.
Ivan Vanko's appearance didn't affect Finney's mood much; on the contrary, he was happy to have gotten rid of two troublesome individuals ahead of time. However, he had promised someone, so he still called Billy to explain.
But as soon as the call connected, Billy's complicated voice came through: "Finney, I'm fired."
"What?"
Finney was slightly taken aback.
"That fat bastard said it was because we didn't do a proper check and let that guy in, so he just fired us." Billy said through gritted teeth, clearly someone was blaming Billy and his group of newly hired interns for Ivan's situation.
"By the way, are you guys okay?"
"I'm fine, but I got separated from them and forgot to exchange contact information. You can contact them and see if they can help." Finney replied truthfully.
"I'll hang up now, I'll talk to you later."
Hearing that the girls were also lost, Billy's mood was obviously even worse after losing his job, and he hung up the phone without saying much more.
Finney didn't care. In fact, he also felt that Ivan's ability to sneak in was indeed related to the laxity of the opening ceremony, after all, even Billy had managed to get so many tickets.
He secretly left the group of enthusiastic fans and continued to tour the expo, admiring the imaginative ideas and concepts.
Not long after, Billy called to say he had found the two women and asked if he wanted to come over. Finney declined the invitation, as he was obviously more comfortable wandering around by himself. Billy didn't insist either, knowing that with Finney around, the two women's attention would definitely not be on him. After two full hours, Finney still hadn't seen the entire exhibition, which was going to last a whole year and would be constantly changing.
When he got home that evening, Skye was still waiting for him in the living room.
"Why are you so late today?"
Skye assumed Finney was at Kamar-Taj. "
I went to the Stark Expo opening ceremony today," Finney explained while changing his shoes.
"Is what the news said true?"
Skye immediately became interested. She was always on her computer, keeping up with the latest media reports, and already knew about the opening ceremony before Finney even got home.
"What do you mean, true?"
Finney didn't understand Skye's meaning.
"The man with the whip, the news said he exposed Stark's lies. At the previous military council meeting, Stark just declared that his technology couldn't be cracked or copied."
"Well, how should I put it!"
Finney found this difficult to explain. If it was wrong, then Ivan Vanko had indeed completed the small arc reactor himself based on the blueprints.
But to be fair, since it's based on blueprints, it can't be considered a true breakthrough. Besides, Tony is currently using the new elemental arc reactor.
"Anyway, that guy isn't a good person."
Finney didn't answer the question, but instead instructed Skye, "You'd better not wander around these next few days, especially near Stark. I have a feeling something's going to happen."
Skye always trusted Finney's words, so she obediently nodded, then curiously asked, "What is it?"
"I'm not sure either."
Finney shook his head. With his involvement, the familiar future had already become strange.
Around the same time, after inspecting the devices Ivan had made, Tony found Ivan Vanko, who had been interrogated for a long time without saying a word.
"I don't understand why you don't take it and sell it for money."
Tony, dressed in a suit and tie, looked at the naked Ivan from the inspection and continued in a deep voice, "You can sell it to other countries. That will make you a fortune."
Ivan lowered his head, and the dim light made it impossible to see his expression, but from his voice, he seemed pleased.
"Tony, you know what? If you can make God bleed, people will stop believing in him!"
"Oh, you want me to stop believing in God?!" Tony's face darkened. He had just made that boast a while ago, and now he'd been proven wrong.
"When there's blood in the water, it attracts sharks. I just need to watch you from here, and they'll devour you."
Ivan raised his head, a smile on his face, seemingly confident he had Tony under his control. He continued, "And…"
"Palladium poisoning is a very painful way to die!"
"Oh!"
Tony responded casually. If he hadn't created the new element, his face would have been much worse. Fortunately, he had eliminated that threat.
"That's right, that stuff is definitely not comfortable."
Tony loosened his tie slightly, his expression hardening as he interrogated Ivan, "So, where did you steal my design?"
Ivan's equipment must have included more than just an energy whip… In the movie, he could easily swing a Mark V; his strength must be considerable. I'm getting featured on an app next week, and I'm probably going to get a lot of flak for it. Although, well, this book might have some parts that aren't quite satisfactory... So, I'm playing the victim beforehand... I'll try my best to improve! Don't give up on me!
