Chapter 40: Departure

"So, will you come with me to Mordin City?" Ronin asked.

"I never said I would go to Mordin City. I only said we could continue cooperating," Milia shrugged. "If you need to rent aura, you're welcome to find me. If you actually control a Mafia Don, I wouldn't mind partnering with you for technical support. But Heaven's Arena is my base."

Ronin paused. "Is that so? Alright."

Even though Ronin could have escaped without Milia, he owed her for showing up in the tunnel.

Regardless of her profit motives, the partnership had brought them closer.

Ronin considered her a trustworthy friend now.

...

"A pity. If the kid in the tunnel attacked, I would have made 2 billion."

The speaker was a bowl-cut young man named Mashle.

He was a partner of the mercenary group. Unlike the support staff, Mashle was a combatant.

And expensive.

He came along for the mission, thinking he'd make some extra cash.

Ronin was shrewd. He set different prices: 2 billion for a kill, 200 million for intimidation.

He even provided Shalnark's ability data. Mashle was interested in the 2 billion.

But based on Muherr's intel, he chose not to act. He took the 200 million.

Looking at the transfer, he was satisfied.

Muherr was the "Elf" sniper.

"Usamen, I earned your referral fee. Raise the price next time," Muherr said coolly.

"You didn't bring Golem. This price is fine," Usamen, the chinless man, shrugged. "We didn't have to kill anyone, just stall."

"It's fine if there's no follow-up. But what if those mad dogs come after us?" Muherr glared at Usamen. He felt underpaid.

"Okay, I get it," Usamen thought. He didn't pay anyway; Ronin did.

Is Heaven's Arena this profitable? Usamen looked at a business card in his hand.

Milia, Heaven's Arena Gold Medal Agent.

...

After Milia left, Ronin tended to his injuries.

The Eight Gates and Primary Lotus took a toll.

But as an Enhancer, he'd heal in a few days.

He didn't plan to stay. Three days after the fight, he returned the aura to Milia and left Heaven's Arena quietly.

As he left, the news of his battle with Uvogin exploded, fueled by Milia's PR machine.

Killua, having cleared the 190th floor, saw the posters.

Holding a poster of Ronin's smiling face, Killua scoffed. Show-off.

He tossed the poster in the trash and packed his luggage (mostly chocolate robots). It was time to leave.

According to his jerk brother Illumi, he wasn't ready for the 200th floor.

He didn't know why, but he had to return to Kukuroo Mountain.

More assassination training. Boring.

Too bad I can't challenge Ronin again. But next time, I'll be stronger.

...

In the medical center on the 150th floor, Uvogin woke up.

He was mummified in bandages. One arm was amputated. The burns would take a long time to heal.

Worse, he had developed a phobia of fire.

Seeing a spark made him jump out of bed in a rage.

"I got intel," Shalnark sat in the room with a laptop.

"About Ronin?" Machi stood by the window, peeling an apple.

Nobunaga and Franklin were out smoking to avoid triggering Uvogin.

"No," Shalnark said. "I found a way on the Hunter website that might restore Uvogin."

"Regrow an arm?" Machi was skeptical.

"Yeah. Can't verify it, but it's worth a shot," Shalnark said.

"What is it?" Uvogin asked from the bed.

"Have you heard of Greed Island?" Shalnark asked slowly.

Before Uvogin could answer, Shalnark's phone rang.

Chrollo.

"Send me Ronin's data," Chrollo said concisely.

"Okay," Shalnark replied. He knew what that meant.

Ronin had caught the Boss's attention.

With that kind of ability, he's a prime target for theft.

Next time. Next time, we'll catch him!

Shalnark compiled the data and videos, sending them to Chrollo.

...

The battle in Heaven's Arena made Ronin realize a misconception he held.

He equated power with Jutsu Rank.

In reality, Rank only indicated learning difficulty, not absolute destructive power.
