The object that fell was likely a steel plate from the construction site.

Jiang Qin considered the facts. He reached a reliable conclusion.

Now he faced a critical question. Why was he reborn?

The answer was quite simple. His heart was full of regrets. He had moved heaven and earth to earn a second chance.

What was the regret for Jiang Qin?

It was nothing else. He had failed to make money.

He was reborn to grind for cash. Romance? Not even a dog would do that!

Being a spare tire was a massive drain on his energy. He would rather spend that time helping his parents wash the dishes.

People always have distractions when they are young. It is understandable to appreciate beautiful things. However, it would be ridiculous for a man nearing forty to be reborn with nothing but breasts and legs on his mind.

He was reborn. No sane person would waste time on romance!

Jiang Qin folded the paper and put it in his pocket. He looked up. Chu Siqi stood there, frozen. Disbelief flashed in her eyes.

"That was a love letter for me," Siqi said. "How... how can you take it back?"

"You said you did not want it. I should not let it go to waste. I will change the name and give it to someone else."

Siqi choked on her words. She quickly changed her strategy. "Jiang Qin, it is not like you have zero chance. I just do not want to date right now. It might be different in college. I will consider you first!"

Jiang Qin looked at her. He felt a wave of goosebumps.

'If I were still my teenage self, I might have followed this path into the darkness.'

But looking at it now, his younger self had terrible taste.

'Consider me first? Is that even human speech?'

"Everything I said is true," Siqi continued. "But there is one condition. You are not allowed to write love letters to others. You are not allowed to like anyone else. If you do, we will never have a chance!"

"I do not think I actually like you. Let us just part ways on good terms. Be a good girl."

Siqi widened her eyes. Her pride felt a sharp sting.

Why did he say they should part on good terms? It sounded like she was the one being dumped. She was being kind by encouraging him not to give up. What was with this attitude!

"Jiang Qin, do you know that love requires trials? If you cannot even handle a small setback, how can I consider being with you? I do not see any determination from you!"

"Then find someone else to trial," Jiang Qin replied. "I have more important things to do now."

His mind was focused on making money. He did not want to engage in useless entanglements.

Siqi exploded with anger. "Jiang Qin, you bastard! I swear I will never speak to you again!"

"Wait a minute!"

Jiang Qin called out as she turned to run. His face showed an unusual tension.

Siqi felt a spark of joy. Her girlish pride returned to her face.

'He really is afraid I will ignore him. All that talk about moving on was just a bluff.'

"What is it? Is there something else? I am telling you now, you will not get another chance!"

Jiang Qin ignored her. He looked at his stationery bag. "Are we taking the Gaokao? Is it over? Which subject are we on?"

Siqi blinked. "It is over. The last subject finished this morning!"

"Great. If I had to take it again, I would not even get into Lanxiang Vocational School."

Siqi looked at his bright smile. She felt a bit dazed. "You... you called me back just to say that?"

Jiang Qin took a deep breath. "One more thing. Does finishing the exam mean the holiday has started?"

"I do not know! Ask whoever you want!"

Siqi was furious. She ran back toward the teaching building.

He was pretending not to care after being rejected. What kind of person was he? Did he think she would soften her heart? He must have learned this "playing hard to get" tactic from somewhere. She decided she would ignore him for a week. They would see who apologized first!

Jiang Qin packed his things. He walked toward the building but was soon surrounded by classmates.

"I told you that you would fail," said a voice. "You think you can just like Chu Siqi? Know your place!"

The speaker was Qin Ziyang. He was a famous rich kid in Class 2. His father was the largest local real estate developer.

This guy once shouted that he would pay for everyone's meal in the cafeteria. He was incredibly arrogant.

"Old Jiang, there is no need to be sad," said the second person. "Eighty to a hundred guys have been rejected by her. I will buy you a soda later."

This was a small, chubby boy with glasses. His name was Guo Zihang. He was Jiang Qin's best friend from high school.

Jiang Qin ignored Ziyang's mockery. He looked at Zihang with nostalgia. He patted Zihang on the shoulder.

"Old Guo, your legs are still there. It is good to see you standing."

[Status: Confused]

"??????"

Jiang Qin left the school. He rode his bike south.

To be honest, a young body felt amazing. There was no fatigue or soreness.

[Buff: Youthful Vitality - Active]

Before his rebirth, he would have been gasping for air after a few steps. It was different now. With this physique, he felt he could work a factory line and earn enough for a house through overtime pay.

He saw Olympic slogans on the road. He pedaled faster. He felt the power of his youthful body.

'I actually have hair to fly in the wind. I have missed this feeling!'

Half an hour later, he arrived at the Fanhuali community in the north of the city.

The buildings here were dark. The paint on the walls was peeling. The neighborhood did not even have a proper gate. There was only a crossbar to limit vehicles. Looking inside, the first things visible were illegal shacks rather than building entrances.

If he remembered correctly, this was the first old neighborhood slated for demolition. The official notice would arrive in July. To show their determination, the government would pay out all compensation by October.

The relative of his third uncle lived here. Once the money arrived, the man's entire aura changed. He smoked Chunghwa cigarettes and claimed he wanted to drive a Mercedes.

Later, the man did not get the Mercedes. His two sons started fighting instead. The younger son wanted half for a new wife. The older son wanted half to marry someone else's wife.

They had nearly broken each other's heads. The younger one called the older one unreasonable for wanting half the money for a "second-hand" wife.

The older one was furious. He shouted that marrying a woman with a child was a better deal than a single one!

'I want to buy this.'

Jiang Qin looked at the old neighborhood. He was practically drooling.

But there was a serious problem. He had no money.

How much money could a high school graduate have? He had coins for ice cream, but real estate was out of the question.

Jiang Qin felt a sense of regret. It felt like countless piles of cash were rolling past him and disappearing.

He did not have the ability to raise starting capital in a short time. There was very little he could do.

Buying land was unrealistic. He had no principal for stock investments.

This was the downside of not having a System. Even if your head was full of good ideas, you could not take the first step without money.

'Did I get a fake rebirth?'

Suddenly, Jiang Qin saw a bus stop at the side of the road. Chu Siqi stepped off the bus. Her floral dress swayed in the wind.

She saw Jiang Qin immediately. Her expression turned to surprise, then she huffed and tilted her head back. She seemed to be waiting for something.

However, Jiang Qin simply nodded politely. He took one last longing look at the neighborhood and rode away.

The breeze lifted a corner of her skirt. Only endless shock and confusion remained under the bus sign.
