Chapter 9 - Raffle draw

Daniella's pov

"I'm going very well," he replied. "I'll be free on Friday afternoon, let's go to receive the price."

He hung up almost immediately after, my heart danced.

I forgot how sad I was for a moment and my face suddenly lit up. I straightened my shoulder, put on my makeup and walked out of the bathroom.

"What did he come for?" Romi asked as soon as I walked into the office. "Did he come to see you because he missed you?"

"Get back to work Romi, stop asking too many questions" I dismissed her almost immediately.

The day went fast, too fast. Soon, it was Friday.

I put on my best dress, did my makeup and hair as usual in front of the dresser. I smiled at my reflection.

"I've got this" I said to myself.

Surprisingly, Gary was outside my house waiting for me. I looked at him on his phone inside his car and I suddenly felt a tingling sensation in my heart.

"Snap out of it Daniella," I shook my head violently, "this is strictly business".

"Hi," I said, stepping into the car. "Have you been waiting? You could've called me"

"I didn't wait that long," he answered immediately. "You look beautiful".

It felt like a dream, it's been so long since I heard that statement and it genuinely made my heart melt in an unexplainable way. I held my bag tightly, adjusting gently in my seat.

"Thank you".

The ride there was quiet but the air felt heavy. We got there in no time and I begged Mr Gary to walk arms linked with me, he agreed and we looked like a real couple.

"Hi, I'm Daniella, I won the raffle draw and I was asked to come and receive the prize today," I said to the receptionist.

"You may have your seat, someone will be with you shortly". She replied.

Not long after, the CEO's secretary came, he sat across from them in the cafeteria. He brought out some files for them to sign.

"You need to sign here, here, here and here," he said pointing to some papers on the table. "But first, can I see your ID's?"

I could hear my heartbeat, I didn't know what to do but My Gary was quick.

"I forgot my ID at home but my wife is with hers, you can check that" he said calmly.

"Okay".

"But before you can receive the price, an article must be published" the man said to us.

An article? I didn't tell Mr Gary about any of these things. I could see anger and regret on his face. I apologized to him with my eyes and he pulled me to a corner.

"You didn't tell me about an article, I can't have my face on the internet" he said. "I'm leaving"

"Please stay, you don't have to show your face, you can put on a nose cover, please" I pleaded.

He agreed to stay, and took the pictures. I received the price and we left together.

I finally have a house.
