Chapter 99 - Chapter 99: A Bit of a Tangent (Not a real chapter)

There's actually quite a bit that can be written about this period. Let me just mull it over a little more.

Here's a little aside—think of it as a bit of filler.

Let's talk about Vya.

I genuinely adore Vya. She's just so well-behaved and adorable.

You could say Vya's a Honkai beast, and that'd be correct. You could say she's human, and that works too. Calling her a Herrscher is also fine.

And it just hit me—a "Herrscher of Little Sisters."

Hehe, just kidding.

Originally, Vya was Elysia's companion creature.

All of Vya's passive traits are related to people, and I've explicitly written about some of them.

For example, she can see the light of human nature.

The brighter the light, the purer the humanity, and the more Vya likes it.

Another one: she automatically brings out people's capacity to love others.

People don't just like Vya because of that, though. The most important reason is simply that Vya is incredibly cute.

Heck, I basically wrote her on the premise that cuteness can save the world.

...

Earlier, I saw a comment saying Vya has no brains, that she's naive and saccharine.

Pfft.

That really made me laugh. How much brains do you expect a child to have?

And sure, she might seem a bit simple and airheaded, but she knows how to talk.

She loves saying cute and lovely things.

Besides, why would Vya even need brains? With so many clever people around her, why should she have to think?

On top of that, Vya is a pure stat monster—brains are optional.

Actually, writing Vya is a bit challenging.

Because whether it's the male or female leads I've written before, they were all adults. That, at least, I can somewhat relate to and think through.

But getting into Vya's perspective is really hard to immerse in, at least for me.

So I usually observe Vya through a third-person lens.

Later, I might write a self-narrative from Vya.

In first person.

What a character says is best determined by what the character themselves wants to say, not what the author wants them to say.

Creating a character that feels "alive" is incredibly difficult.

...

I've emphasized many times that there are no tragedies here.

And the story of the Previous Era has already undergone quite a few changes by now.

I'm still very much looking forward to the upcoming plot.

It really is tragedy-free. I really want to maintain logical consistency while still having room for a bit of the unexpected.

The unexpected that still makes sense.

Like a joke I made in the group chat.

To clear the game, just have Vya eat the Cocoon.

Hehehehe...

Of course, it's not that simple.

And then there's the ideal effect I'm aiming for in the end.

Even if my writing isn't great, I hope people can still see a thread of narrative.

Overall, what I'm writing is Vya's journey towards becoming "human."

Though it's influenced by Elysia.

The traits she embodies, even though she gained them by consuming Herrscher Cores.

That's roughly how it is.

...

Herrscher of Reason: "Learning" the unknown

Herrscher of the Void: "Discerning" beauty

Herrscher of Thunder: "Protecting" others

Herrscher of Wind: Embracing "freedom"

Herrscher of Ice: Becoming "resilient"

Herrscher of Death: Understanding "creation"

Herrscher of Flame: Filled with "passion"

Herrscher of Sentience: "Listening" to hearts

Herrscher of Earth: Shouldering "responsibility"

Herrscher of Binding: "Mastering" oneself

Herrscher of Dominance: Liking "cooperation"

Herrscher of Corruption: "Hope" endures

...

I do have a bit of ambition, but clearly, I haven't executed it well.

But more important is the bond between Vya and everyone else.

I rarely read other authors' fanfictions.

But in the Honkai series, apart from abstract comedies and overpowered protagonist stories, even slice-of-life works tend to have tragedies.

I personally detest tragedies. I've seen enough tragic twists in games—do I have to read about them in novels too?

And then there are those who force tragedy just for the sake of it.

Yes, it's human nature.

People remember sad things more easily.

As for happy memories—try to think carefully right now. Between the happiest and saddest things you've experienced, which one leaves a deeper impression, which image is clearer in your mind?

...

Writing is about creating stories.

What people enjoy reading is naturally the best.

Maybe my writing is just average, but it all started from a sudden whimsy.

Sometimes, it's these "sudden whimsies" that allow things to bloom with extraordinary brilliance.
