Aria tried to forget the incident.
She really did.
The wedding hall buzzed with excitement, relatives moved around with purpose, and laughter echoed near the stage. Yet, somehow, her eyes kept searching the crowd—without her permission.
She saw him again.
Arav stood near the stage, talking to someone, hands in his pockets, posture relaxed as if nothing bothered him. The same boy who had spoken without thinking twiceShe looked away immediately.
It didn't matter.
Or so she told herself.
"Everyone, please gather near the stage!" a voice announced through the microphone.
People slowly formed a circle. Aria stood beside her best friend, arms folded loosely, listening half-heartedly.
"For the sangeet performance," the announcer continued, smiling brightly, "we've decided on something special."
Aria felt a strange uneasiness.
"Aria and Arav will perform together."
The words landed heavier than expected.
Aria's smile faded. Her best friend turned toward her, eyes wide with excitement.
"That's amazing!" she whispered.
Aria didn't reply.
Across the hall, Arav lifted his head sharply. His expression changed—just for a second. His gaze met Aria's.
Awkward. Uncomfortable.
Neither smiled.
Neither protested.
Because they couldn't.
Everyone around them clapped, already convinced it was a perfect choice.
Later, near the refreshment table, they stood a few steps apart.
"This is unnecessary," Arav said finally, his voice low.
Aria looked at him.
"So is being rude," she replied.
A pause.
"The wedding isn't ours," he said. "Refusing will complicate things."
She sighed.
"I know."
For the first time, they agreed on something.
"We'll practice," Arav added. "Just until the performance."
"Just until then," Aria repeated, almost to herself.
They exchanged numbers without looking at each other.
No names saved.
No extra words spoken.
As Aria walked away, she couldn't help but wonder—
