The hall opened, and Conner walked in holding a small boy dressed in a nice robe. "Max", Evie said, standing up, and Max walked to her with rushed footsteps. "How are you, Sister Evie, Sister Marie?" he said, giving her a small ceremonial bow, looking like a small gentleman.
"How have you been?" Evie said, almost on the verge of tears. It had been at least three weeks since she had seen Max.
"I have been good, sister. The grammar school is good, and I am learning a lot. I missed you and Sister Marie a lot," he said, looking at Helga in the back.
"We missed you, too," Evie said, holding his hand. Helga also came forward, kneeling next to him as they listened to Max chattering about his work.
"May I ask for your hand for a dance, my lady?" Conner said as the three of them looked at Conner, who bowed, extending his hand before Helga.
