Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: I Let the Truth Slip

The board had questions they weren't prepared to ask.

I knew because they asked them anyway.

They thought the questions were traps.

They were.

But I turned the trap around.

The meeting began as usual.

Cold, sterile. The board seated with stiff posture, trying not to betray the panic simmering behind their masks.

A junior member cleared his throat. "Madam… there are concerns about the timing of your audits. How did you anticipate the discrepancies before we noticed them?"

I smiled faintly. "I pay attention."

Eyes narrowed.

Whispers spread.

"Attention isn't enough," my sister muttered under her breath.

I leaned forward, voice soft and deliberate. "Of course not. But sometimes… noticing patterns is enough to see the consequences before they happen."

The room went silent.

Somewhere, someone swallowed too hard.

Later, my husband tried to corner me privately.

"You're revealing too much," he whispered. "You're making them suspicious."

I tilted my head. "They already suspect."

"What?"

"Everything they've done in the shadows… I already know. I just… let them think they're hiding it."

His jaw dropped. "You can't…"

"I can," I said calmly. "Because I've seen what happens when paranoia takes over. You all can't control each other anymore. And the truth… slips when you panic."

I watched as his expression shifted from anger to disbelief.

That was my favorite moment.

By evening, the ripple had started.

Emails flew back and forth. Accusations hidden in polite phrasing.

Phone calls whispered in hallways.

All while I sat quietly, appearing untouched.

And my sister… she lingered at my door.

"You let it slip," she said finally. "You admitted too much."

I smirked. "No. I revealed only enough for you to panic. The rest… you'll find out in time."

Her hands trembled.

Fear is a powerful teacher.

And she was now my student.

That night, my ally called.

"They're moving faster," he said. "She's sending messages to everyone trying to contain the leaks."

I poured a glass of wine. "Let them. They're teaching themselves how to fail."

He laughed softly. "You make it sound so effortless."

"It's not effortless," I replied. "It's control. And control… is terrifying when you've lost it before."

Tomorrow, the first public consequence will surface.

Someone's pride will break first.

And I'll be ready, smiling, untouchable, untamed.
