Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Meeting I Wasn’t Invited To

I found out about the meeting by accident.

Or rather—

They thought it would be an accident.

The office was unusually quiet that morning. Too quiet. Desks were empty. Assistants whispered instead of talking. Even the elevators seemed to move slower, like the building itself was holding its breath.

I noticed the absence before anyone spoke.

Half the board was missing.

My assistant hesitated at my door. "Madam… the executives are currently occupied."

"Occupied?" I asked softly.

She swallowed. "There's an emergency meeting."

I smiled.

"Without me?"

She didn't answer.

That was answer enough.

I returned to my office and closed the door gently, as if nothing had happened. I poured myself a glass of water, took one slow sip, and sat down.

So this was their move.

Exclude me.

Corner me.

Decide my fate behind closed doors.

In my past life, I would have panicked. I would have stormed into that room, demanding answers, exposing my fear.

This time, I did nothing.

I opened my laptop.

Minutes passed.

Then my phone buzzed.

Unknown Number:

Conference Room B. You should be listening, not attending.

I didn't reply.

Instead, I tapped a button.

The screen flickered.

Voices filled my office.

"She's becoming a problem," a man said.

My husband's voice followed. "She's unstable. Emotional. This sudden interest in management is dangerous."

I leaned back in my chair, completely calm.

My twin sister spoke next. "We need to act fast. If she keeps digging, she'll uncover things we can't explain."

Another voice hesitated. "Legally, she still holds—"

"We can pressure her," my husband cut in. "She trusts me."

I almost laughed.

Someone cleared their throat. "If we push her out too aggressively, the shareholders might notice."

Silence.

Then my sister said softly, "What if she resigns… willingly?"

The word echoed in my mind.

Resign.

Give up everything.

Again.

I closed my eyes.

Not in pain.

In amusement.

The meeting ended an hour later.

I shut the audio off and stood slowly, walking toward the window. Outside, the city buzzed, unaware that several powerful people had just signed their own downfall.

They had confirmed everything.

Their fear.

Their guilt.

Their unity.

And most importantly—

Their intention to destroy me first.

Good.

That meant they believed I was dangerous.

Which meant I was winning.

That afternoon, my husband came to see me.

He knocked this time.

"Come in," I said pleasantly.

He stepped inside, his expression careful. Too careful.

"You weren't in the meeting today," he said.

"No," I replied. "I wasn't invited."

He watched my face closely.

I smiled. "Was it productive?"

He hesitated. "We were… concerned about you."

Concerned.

A beautiful word used to justify cruelty.

"I understand," I said calmly. "Change can be frightening."

Relief washed over his face.

He still thought he was ahead.

"I think," he continued, "it might be best if you take a step back for now. Let things settle."

I stood, walked toward him, and met his eyes.

"You want me to disappear," I said softly.

"No," he said quickly. "Just… rest."

I nodded slowly.

"Of course."

I reached for my phone.

"I'll put everything in writing," I added sweetly. "Transparency matters."

He froze.

Then forced a smile. "That would be great."

He left minutes later, unaware that he had just agreed to something that would ruin him.

That night, I typed a single email.

Polite.

Professional.

Deadly.

I requested:

Independent audits

Legal reviews

Board accountability

And I copied everyone.

Shareholders.

Legal counsel.

External partners.

I hit send.

Then I turned off my phone.

Because tomorrow—

They wouldn't be meeting without me anymore.

They would be answering to me.
