Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Vice Captain Rei of the Gardes

"How am I supposed to uphold Fontaine's rule of law when I'm surrounded by incompetents like you?"

In a bright conference room in Palais Mermonia, a young man with black hair put an unsigned arrest warrant on the table with a loud sound.

He looked around the room. Then, without saying anything else, he walked out quickly.

Moments later, a chorus of criticism erupted within the conference room.

"Such blatant disrespect for his elders!"

"Does he have any respect for his superiors at all?"

However, not everyone was critical of him.

A middle-aged man watched where the young man left, looking at him with clear approval.

Beside him, the Judge, Roman, noticed his expression and couldn't help but nudge him, speaking up, "Captain Donatello, Rei's behavior just now was far too presumptuous! He is merely a Vice Captain of the Gardes; everyone seated here is his superior!"

Donatello shrugged, replying with indifference, "I actually think he made a valid point. Everyone here knows the truth of the case, yet you all refuse to sign the arrest warrant. How is that any different from being insects?"

Roman frowned. "That does not align with procedural justice."

Donatello shook his head slightly and said nothing more.

Rei walked briskly out of the Palais Mermonia.

The sunlight warmed him a little and made him feel better.

At that moment, a young Garde hurriedly walked up to him.

"Captain, was the arrest warrant signed?" His voice trembled, his eyes filled with a mix of anticipation and unease.

Rei's expression darkened, and he sighed. "Federic, both the Tribunal and the Maison have rejected the application."

Hearing this, Federic's shoulders slumped. Disappointment and indignation were written all over his face. "How can that be? Everyone knows he's the one who hurt my sister! Why won't they sign the arrest warrant?"

Rei explained helplessly, "The evidence currently on hand isn't enough to directly prove his involvement in the case. Moreover, he is..."

Federic understood the implication. He sighed heavily. "Captain, I've caused you trouble. If there's really no way, let's just forget it."

"Absolutely not!"

Rei's expression was firm. "I care about what happened, Federic. I promise I'll make sure that man gets the punishment he deserves!"

Federic's eyes filled with emotion. He struggled to find words. "Captain, thank you..."

Rei reached out and patted him on the shoulder. "Don't worry. I'll handle everything."

Once Federic had calmed down, he asked, "By the way, where's Old Luke?"

Federic scratched his head. "He got totally drunk last night and ended up in a fight. He's still locked up in the Gardes' holding cell."

Rei could only sigh in exasperation.

Just as he was preparing to head to the holding cell to visit Old Luke, the walkie-talkie on his chest beeped abruptly. "Captain, a security incident has broken out at Chioriya Boutique."

Rei quickly grabbed the walkie-talkie and responded, "I'm heading over immediately!"

After speaking, he turned and walked briskly in the direction of Chioriya Boutique.

It was early winter, and the breeze carried a hint of chill.

A few dry leaves fell slowly to the ground.

Walking along the streets of Fontaine, Rei sometimes felt like he had lived here before.

With time, this feeling went away. He got used to living in this new place.

The world in the game looked nice and fun.

But reality was not quite so beautiful—at least, not for someone like him, who arrived in this world with nothing but his instincts to survive.

Soon, he saw Chioriya Boutique ahead.

In front of the boutique, a man with a strange face was lying on the ground, shouting rude words.

At the store entrance, a young girl stood with her arms crossed over her chest, her eyes filled with disdain.

She had clear, pretty features and brave eyes. She looked strong and confident.

She wore Inazuman-style clothes that mixed traditional and modern fashion. It made her look special.

She wore black tights with a flower design.

Wife.

The man on the ground saw Rei arrive. His finger shook as he pointed at Chiori, raising his voice to accuse her. "I was just asking her to hurry up and finish my employer's clothes, and she hit me! Arrest her, quick!"

Rei shouted coldly, "I don't need you to teach me how to do my job!"

But the man, instead of calming down, became even more arrogant and threatened him. "Do you know who my employer is? If you don't arrest her today, your days in the Gardes are over!"

Rei looked at him seriously. "Then why don't you tell me, who is your employer?"

The man replied proudly, "Olev, the oldest son of the Cappet family."

When he heard the name, Rei's eyes went cold for a moment.

He stayed calm and asked, "As far as I know, Mr. Olev has more clothes than he can count. Why the rush for this one?"

"That's because..." The man stopped halfway through his sentence, suddenly becoming alert. He stared suspiciously at Rei. "Why are you asking this?"

Rei frowned and took out his baton. "I need to see if you are causing trouble," he said.

He quickly made the baton longer and walked toward the man.

"Not only are you provoking trouble, but you also attempted to harass the female shopkeeper. Today, I'm going to let you taste the baton of justice!"

Seeing the situation turn against him, the man scrambled away in a panic, shouting as he ran, "You just wait! Mr. Olev won't let you get away with this!"

Rei snorted coldly, retracted his baton, and turned to face Chiori.

Just then, a breeze brushed past.

The girl's orange skirt moved in the wind, showing the top of her black tights.

"Hey, I saw your underwear," Rei said honestly.

However, his kindness did not earn him Chiori's gratitude.

The girl became angry and spoke coldly.

"Since you saw it, then go die!"
