Chapter 3 - chapter 3: demon Academy

Two weeks had passed, and I was beginning to realize something I hadn't expected, these demons were far more civilized than I'd imagined. The way they carried themselves, the subtle gestures, the quiet confidence, they were almost human in manner. And somehow, in all of this, I felt like I belonged.

"Every student to the school gym! The princess will make a speech to you all!"

Oh, right. I had almost forgotten. The student body president, Alana a relative of the Nomoshiki Clan and how do i know this information? Yes the past two weeks royal demon history and the family tree was forced into my head by Alicia, Alana was announcing this. I hadn't told her anything about me, and I intended to keep it that way. I would stay in the background, a shadow, blending in. My entrance score was average, my magic, combat, and sword skills were unremarkable. Perfect cover.for a background character

We made our way to the gym. I sat between my two friends, Jax and Po, both proud to remain unnoticed. Low-ranking demons like us preferred the comfort of anonymity. They are truely proud to be background characters not too outstanding and not too demanding

And then, to my surprise, our "parents" showed up.

"Justin!!!" a familiar voice rang out. Alicia, running toward me, threw her arms around me.

"Uhhh… Mom, you're hurting me," I said, struggling to catch my breath.

I should explain. Alicia wasn't actually my mother. She was a servant of my father, fiercely loyal, and for the past two weeks, she had taken on the role of my mother at my request. I didn't want to stand out, so she had been playing the part perhaps a little too convincingly.

"Parents and students, please sit down so the princess may announce her welcome," Alana's voice echoed through the gym.

The moment her words faded, everything went still. All eyes turned toward the grand entrance as the princess appeared, radiating regality. Her silky black hair framed her face perfectly, bright blue eyes glinting like sapphires. Somehow, she looked eerily similar to me, and it was hard not to notice.

Yea I remember it's the same image I get from looking into a mirror every week morning preparing for school

"I would like to introduce myself. I am Calamity, first princess to the demon throne, engaged to Volta Blackwood of the Dragon Clan," she announced. The gym murmured with a mix of awe and intrigue.

It was common knowledge: demons were expected to marry dragons to maintain the kingdom's balance. The sighs, the looks exchanged between students, the subtle nods it all reaffirmed the tradition that I despised. One day, I would reclaim my father's glory, regardless of their customs.

"It has also been announced that the queen herself will be here to observe the trials next 4 weeks. These trials will determine the future warriors of the united kingdom, so give it your all," she continued, ending with a radiant smile that made the room erupt in applause.

The trials an event held once every five years would test strength, skill, and wit of all students. Only the worthy would represent the kingdom against the angels. Lucky me. I had to appear weak, blend in, and save my true abilities for later. A sly grin curved my lips as I watched the princess disappear with her knights.

"Justin, let's move. And you remember our deal, right?" Po said, a mischievous smile on his face.

"What deal?" I asked.

"You seriously forgot? You were supposed to give chocolate to the student body president because you lost the bet," he reminded me.

Oh, right the bet on who was less fit last Tuesday and I happened to out done them. I had completely forgotten. I would hand it over today, expecting the usual rejection.a grin danced on my lips

She's obviously gonna reject me infront of the whole school truely a not outstanding student I smiled with pleasure

Classes passed in a blur, quicker than usual, ancient demon history classes was boring as usual as we all fell asleep as miss Elina read about something to do with the witch of chaos hmmm not really that interesting if you ask me and a place called the runes a prison for demons boringggg

Alchemy class was a mess up like usual we were practicing how to make magical artifacts and yes mine, Jax and Po's blew up before we even could finish it sending the whole class into a burst of laughter my black hair stood up like a scared cat

Break came along as we all sat together in the cafeteria were chattering was everywhere laughs and high voices I preferred to sit quiet and enjoy my meal

" Hey you do know how brutal the pres can be right" Jax said stuffing peas in his mouth

" You don't say" I replied putting a full spoon into my mouth

"Every guy she rejects his self confidence gets destroyed for life man" po added

" Well that's a bummer" I replied

" Remember the third year guy who asked her out?" Jax said " he left school after he was rejected never showed his face her ever again man" he added

"talk about brutal " Po said with a grin

" Stop making this hard for me " I said out loud slamming the table

and before I knew it, the moment had come. I approached the president cautiously, my steps measured, my heart thudding in my chest.she stood between trees in the school field where everyone surrounded the place as they hid in the bushes looming over to me and the pres I could hear the muttering in the bushes

I bowed and presented the chocolate, hands out and a grin playing at the corners of my lips.

"Miss ...miss Pres president A .....Alana can can you you please accept my love" as I stutter and a playful grin dances in my lips as I looked down it's truly perfection beyond perfection she would reject it, of course there was no other way.

But then… everything changed.

She held my hands, took the chocolate, and said, calmly, "Of course I'll be with you."

My mind froze. Huh? What just happened? She agreed? Something was off. I stared at her, utterly bewildered, while her expression remained cold, unreadable. She moved along with as if nothing had happened, with a playful smile standing there, I am stunned, trying to make sense of it.

A light flickered in my mind was this a trap? Or had the world just shifted in a way I hadn't anticipated?

I didn't know yet, but one thing was certain: the game had just changed.
