Chapter 38 - Chapter 38 --Oath

Seeing Gui Mei and Yue Guan kneeling outside the hall, heads lowered as they begged for shelter, even Qian Daoliu was momentarily speechless.

"Is that woman insane?" he finally said, his voice heavy with disbelief. "She's forcing her own subordinates to pay sacrificial coins out of pocket—and now she wants to forcibly seize their medicinal fields as well? What kind of leader behaves like this? Isn't she afraid someone will slit her throat in her sleep one day?"

Gui Mei did not hesitate in the slightest.

"The Supreme Pontiff intends to accumulate sacrificial coins to exchange for two Martial Soul Heaven Mending Pills. That requires 4.5 million sacrificial coins. To do this, she has already emptied the treasury."

"Martial Soul Heaven Mending Pill?" Qian Renxue frowned. "What kind of pill is that? Is she trying to repair her own martial soul?"

"It's not for her," Yue Guan said coldly. Since he had already chosen to defect, he no longer concealed anything. "It's for Yu Xiaogang."

Qian Renxue's confusion deepened, but Qian Daoliu instantly let out a mocking snort.

"Yu Xiaogang is Yu Yuanzhen's son from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan," Yue Guan continued. "His innate spirit origin is defective. He needs a Martial Soul Heaven Mending Pill to repair it. The first time we entered the Sacrificial Shop, the Supreme Pontiff personally asked for a solution. This was the method Boss Li gave."

Four and a half million sacrificial coins… for that man.

Qian Daoliu didn't bother explaining further to Qian Renxue. Instead, he spoke decisively.

"I will deal with Bibi Dong regarding this matter. For now, the two of you are not to remain in Spirit Hall. Lie low for a period of time. Golden Crocodile is heading to the Sacrificial Shop to acquire materials for the medicinal field—you will accompany him."

He waved his hand, and two spirit bones appeared.

"These are 30,000-year spirit bones, suitable for each of you. Consider them compensation from Spirit Hall."

"And after you return," he added calmly, "you will follow Xue'er directly."

Gui Mei and Yue Guan were ecstatic. The spirit bones themselves were valuable, but what truly mattered was that they had finally escaped that madwoman's control.

They bowed deeply.

"Your subordinates obey."

Qian Daoliu paused, then let out a slow breath. He took out a specially prepared storage spirit tool and handed it to Golden Crocodile.

Golden Crocodile checked its contents—and his expression changed instantly.

"Big Brother…?"

"Bibi Dong's actions reminded me of something," Qian Daoliu said gravely. "The light-element medicinal field suits the Qian family, but not all our brothers. Spirit Hall was built with everyone's blood and lives. It would be unjust for my family alone to monopolize the benefits."

He continued, his tone solemn.

"This is the Qian family's accumulation over tens of thousands of years. Take it and exchange it for a life-element ability gem. Open a life-element medicinal field so that everyone may benefit."

The surrounding Douluo were deeply moved. Even Gui Mei and Yue Guan felt, with bitter clarity, that their betrayal had been not only necessary—but timely.

Watching Golden Crocodile depart with the two, Qian Renxue turned toward her grandfather. Before she could ask anything, Qian Daoliu cut her off.

"I can't explain everything here," he said. "Come with me to the Supreme Pontiff Palace."

Qian Renxue held back her questions. Compared to answers, she found herself far more interested in seeing Bibi Dong humiliated.

They entered the Supreme Pontiff Palace directly.

Ignoring Hu Liena, who was receiving instruction, Qian Daoliu spoke without preamble.

"From this moment on, Gui Mei and Yue Guan are no longer under the Supreme Pontiff Palace. They will be directly commanded by Xue'er."

Hu Liena's pupils shrank. She immediately looked toward Bibi Dong.

Bibi Dong gripped her scepter so tightly her fingers turned white. Killing intent surged through the hall.

"Where are they?" she demanded.

"They are handling external matters," Qian Daoliu replied. "They won't be returning for some time."

He looked at her steadily.

"As Supreme Pontiff, you should value your own people. If you refuse to protect their interests, if you refuse to care for them, why would outsiders ever care about you?"

"You—who raised Qian Xunji—have the nerve to lecture me?!" Bibi Dong screamed, her composure finally shattering.

Qian Renxue bristled, ready to retort, but Qian Daoliu stopped her.

"And you," he said quietly to Bibi Dong, "who implicated the innocent—how are you any better than him?"

"He started it!" Bibi Dong roared.

"So he was a beast," Qian Daoliu said calmly, "and you are as well?"

The words struck like thunder.

"Gui Mei and Yue Guan betrayed you, not Spirit Hall," he continued. "Yet you wish to kill them. Then tell me—when you attempted to betray Spirit Hall back then, what punishment should you have received?"

Qian Renxue and Hu Liena were stunned.

"You've held the position of Supreme Pontiff for many years," Qian Daoliu said evenly. "Tell me—should the outsider who colluded with you, and you yourself, have been carved into a thousand pieces?"

Bibi Dong's face turned deathly pale.

"When one acts," Qian Daoliu said faintly, "one must bear the consequences. I didn't pursue Jier's death—it was a consequence he earned. That is why I supported you."

He looked at her one last time.

"Now, after everything you've done—are you prepared to bear yours?"

With that, he turned and left, taking Qian Renxue with him.

"You all betrayed me… every single one of you…"

Bibi Dong's hoarse muttering echoed through the empty hall. The evil aura within her continued to swell, further contaminating her soul.

Outside, Qian Daoliu sighed deeply.

"Ask," he said tiredly.

"What happened back then?" Qian Renxue asked, her expression solemn.

Qian Daoliu told her everything.

Her face cycled between red and white as she listened, finally lowering her head in silence.

"These were our mistakes," Qian Daoliu said gently. "You do not need to shoulder them."

After a long pause, Qian Renxue raised her head, eyes bloodshot.

"Father deserved his end. Bibi Dong deserves punishment," she said slowly. "But what about Yu Xiaogang? What about that bastard who seduced her?"

Qian Daoliu sighed.

"She has always protected him."

"Then I'll kill him," Qian Renxue said, her voice resolute. "If he doesn't die—I swear I will never become a god."
