The next day I couldn't contain my excitement and headed to school at an absurdly early hour so I was the only one in class
Or so I thought, I walked over to see Mike already at his table, "Hey!!," I yelled out loud
Oh shit, I yelled again...
I watched as Mike woke up slowly and smiled, I must have ruined his morning nap
"I'm sorr—," Before I could finish talking I was cut off
"Oh you're here, I got so excited I came here early," Mike said in a tired voice
Why does his voice sound so deep right now, is it because he woke up, I then snapped out of consciousness because of how much Mike was shivering
"Do you have a cold!!!?!," I asked him
He gave me a strange smile and replied "Yeah...I guess you could say that,"
I grabbed Mike by the arms and rushed out of the class with him "I'm sure the Nurse is around, he always comes early!!,"
As soon as we were about to enter the nurse's office we found the boys I beat yesterday holding bats looking ready to attack
I clicked my tongue in annoyance and stood in front of Mike "You guys really didn't learn a thing yesterday,"
One of the guys swung a bat at me but I dodged it, all of them then came at me but I managed to grab a bat from one of them using it to beat them
I then heard someone getting hit from behind me, I looked back to see Mike getting hit, I could feel the blood drain out of my body
I smashed the boy's skull against the wall, I watched as blood flowed from Mike's head
"MIKE!!!," I yelled out and quickly carried him to the nurse's office, I felt like shit inside, the scene of Mike getting hit kept popping into my head
I then hit my hand on the wall making led to a small scratch, Mike didn't wake up until the afternoon
He looked weaker than usual, I looked at the bandages on his head and hissed but he smiled back instead
"I'm sorry!!, I should have protected you better!!!," I said out loud
Mike then suddenly grabbed my hand startled, He looked at the scratch I made when punching the wall
"Since you got injured I guess we're even now," He smiled
"Damn it, don't just—" Before I could continue my sentence Mike did something I could not comprehend
Mike nibbled gently on my fingertip, I felt my heart rate go faster by the minute, I didn't know what to do
"M...ik..e...." I said in a low voice
Dammit I couldn't get any words out of my mouth, I felt so weak at the moment just like the day I fell outside
Mike then looked at me and said "I heard licking wounds is efficient,"
He then nibbled harder, at this point I felt like I was going to explode and before I knew it I was falling on the floor
Mike stared at me and chuckled "My you really are weak,"
"I..am...not," I said in a meek voice
Again, I wasn't yelling like I used to but I still felt like bursting, I didn't know what to do about this feeling
"Alex, thanks for protecting me, so don't blame yourself, I lived a life that was too quiet, meeting you brought a bit of life back to my life,"
"So continue being yourself and don't try to change," Mike said out loud
I finally felt calm, it felt like a huge boulder had been lifted off my chest and before I knew it I was hugging Mike
"Thank you, from now on I'll try to be my best self," I said to him without shouting this time
Mike then pulled away and held my chin and smiled "Yeah do that, I wish I could do that too," This time the smile didn't seem all too real at all and I felt like a coward for not pushing further
