The first thing Leonard Bishop did was take out the supplies he had brought and secretly donate them to the village. He specifically told the production crew not to film it.
The next morning, Leonard Bishop's challenge began. He and four friends had two days to help the villagers cut down all the sugarcane on two mountainsides, load it onto trucks, and send it to the sugar factory.
What made the task daunting was that the village's workforce consisted almost entirely of women. There were only a handful of men around.
According to the villagers, all the men had gone to work in other places. The sugarcane fields were contracted out to be cultivated by a big boss from outside the village. Every year around this time, the women would bring their able-bodied children to help cut the sugarcane. They were paid based on the area they cleared, and on a good day, they could make 300 at most for a full day's work.
