Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: She's Actually Pretty Good-looking...

His gaze instinctively landed on the spot. Leona Grant slowly walked over and saw Annabelle Linton's profile as she looked up information on her computer.

She was wearing a beige silk nightgown, the thin fabric clinging to her perfect figure. Below the hem of the gown, a pair of slender, porcelain-white legs were visible.

The sheer impact of the sight made Leona Grant's eyes darken instinctively.

His gaze slowly traveled upward...

Her wavy, half-damp hair cascaded naturally over her shoulders, giving her a delicate, alluring look, along with the fresh scent of someone who had just bathed.

A beautiful silk nightgown always accentuates a woman's allure.

Annabelle Linton wasn't wearing any makeup, yet the healthy, rosy tint to her fair skin made it seem as though she was.

The flickering light from the screen reflected off her face, highlighting her delicate features.

Her languid eyes sparkled like brilliant pearls in the night.

Leona Grant blinked slowly. By the light of the dim, yellow desk lamp, his dark eyes remained fixed on the woman busy at the desk.

A hint of disbelief was mixed into his profound, somber gaze.

The corners of his mouth turned up unconsciously.

'In over two years of marriage, this is the first time I've ever truly looked at her so intently.'

'To be fair, she's actually quite beautiful...'

A shadow was cast upon the dim wall. Annabelle Linton froze for a moment, then turned to look.

Leona Grant was standing in the doorway.

Annabelle Linton seemed stunned for a moment, then her usual expressionless mask fell back into place.

She slowly stood up and walked toward him.

Leona Grant was also taken aback for a second.

Watching her approach, his heart began to pound like a war drum. He didn't know why, but he felt a little nervous.

And then...

SLAM—

Annabelle Linton slammed the door shut without the slightest hesitation!

"..."

Leona Grant instinctively caught the door, his face darkening as he asked, "Are you insane?"

"Is there something wrong with me closing my door?" Annabelle Linton asked nonchalantly. "You're the one standing in front of my door, skulking around. What are you doing?"

"Me, skulking?" Leona Grant repeated with a scoff. But he quickly realized something. "Your door? You're sleeping in here?"

"Where else would I be?"

Hearing this, Leona Grant couldn't hide the shock in his eyes.

'Did I hear that right?'

'She wants to sleep in a separate room?'

'The woman who used to grin from ear to ear whenever I came home? The woman who would be giddy for days just from exchanging a few words with me is now actively avoiding me?'

Leona Grant didn't believe it. He couldn't believe it!

'It's just another one of her games. Playing hard to get.'

He sneered. "You'd better stick to sleeping in a separate room. Then I might actually start to see you in a new..."

SLAM!

Before Leona Grant could finish, the door was slammed shut in his face again, this time with clear impatience.

"Damn it!"

'This is the first time in my entire life anyone has dared to slam a door in my face!'

But beneath Leona Grant's anger, there was an even greater sense of shock.

The woman he knew had been gentle, kind, and timid. This new version of her was so cold it was as if she couldn't even stand the sight of him.

But God knows how she used to love scheming and plotting just to cling to him!

Why the drastic change?

His gut told him this was more than just Annabelle Linton playing hard to get.

Leona Grant returned to his room in a huff. Usually, a warm, yellow lamp would be left on in the bedroom, a cozy light waiting for his late return. But not tonight.

The pitch-black room made him frown, unaccustomed to the darkness.

He flipped the main switch, and the room was instantly flooded with light.
