Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: You're Lying

Shen Zhiyao answered the last question: "This method doesn't work for everyone. The other party needs to hold a significant amount of resentment toward you, and they also have to be willing to let you see them. Only then will it work, and only for a very short time—about ten to twenty seconds."

Sure enough, not long after she finished speaking, the figure in the video feed vanished.

The screen was empty, showing only a frantic-looking Wu Ai Wo Fu.

Wu Ai Wo Fu anxiously pleaded with Shen Zhiyao, "Host, you have to help me! She's so terrifying, I don't want to die! I really don't want to die!"

Shen Zhiyao said, "So now you're scared? When you were committing your evil deeds, did you ever think this day would come?"

The woman's soul was incredibly powerful, a clear sign she had suffered inhuman abuse before her death.

Shen Zhiyao didn't want to get involved in this sort of thing.

'After all, you have to pay for your own sins!'

But she had to handle this matter. 'I need to show them what I can do,' Shen Zhiyao thought, 'so the people in the stream will believe me and stop bringing up Zhou Ye.'

Even now, some of them still didn't believe it, thinking it was all an act.

But as long as a small portion of them believed, her business could continue.

The non-believers were still spamming insults in the live chat, while the believers kept asking questions:

[So, why did that pregnant woman die?]

[Her belly was so big, she obviously died in childbirth!]

[Does anyone remember how terrified Wu Ai Wo Fu looked just now? There's no way she just died in childbirth.]

Wu Ai Wo Fu took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down, and began to tell his story.

"Susu was my first wife. When we first got married, we had nothing, but we were very much in love. Every day when I got off work, my wife would have a hot meal ready and waiting for me."

"She never fought with me and helped me with so many things. She was a good woman."

"Just a year into our marriage, she got pregnant. Around that time, my boss was withholding my salary, so she went and had a huge fight with him and got back the 50,000 yuan that was rightfully mine."

"One time, some debt collectors cornered me downstairs. I couldn't get up to our apartment and was almost killed by those thugs."

"Susu heard me shouting from upstairs and immediately rallied a bunch of neighbors to come down and save me. That night, knife in hand and a fierce look on her face, she chased those thugs for several streets and even managed to wound their leader..."

Recalling the scene from all those years ago, the corners of Wu Ai Wo Fu's mouth turned up unconsciously.

"After that, she would wait for me to come home every night, and every year she would accompany me up the mountain to pay respects to our ancestors."

"Until one time, my wife and I were walking through the countryside. I told her, 'I'll go pay respects to the ancestors alone, you should head back.' But Susu refused. By the time we reached our destination, there was some blood on her leg—a clear sign of a minor miscarriage from overexertion. But she just patted my hand and said she was fine..."

"I told Susu, 'You've suffered with me, so I'll protect you for the rest of my life.' But later... I got Susu killed..."

As he sobbed through his story, everyone's hearts ached for him. It was as if they could see Susu's gentle and serene face through the screen.

Wu Ai Wo Fu lived in the countryside.

The path to the ancestral graves was sparsely populated, but robbers and thugs often lurked there.

Fortunately, he and his wife encountered no danger on their way up the burial mound, as they were accompanied by some elderly men and women.

His wife was from the big city. She was a sweet talker, and all the elderly folks they met along the way were fond of her and willing to walk with her along the path on the mound.

But after they came down the mountain, the elderly people all went their separate ways.

The group of people his wife had offended before saw their chance and rushed them.

At this point in the story, Wu Ai Wo Fu was choked with sobs. "That day, Susu seemed to sense the danger. She hid behind me, trembling. I'd never seen her so scared."

"I held her and begged those men to let my wife go. I told them to come at me with whatever they had, but not to hurt my wife."

"But I still couldn't protect her. She was dragged away by those robbers and thugs. They used a huge pair of pliers and clamped it tightly around her waist. That day, I watched with my own eyes as my child fell to the ground, still attached to the umbilical cord, and was dragged across the dirt for dozens of meters."

"I heard the CRACKING of bones, heard Susu's agonized wails... But I couldn't save her... I couldn't save her! When I was being bullied by thugs, Susu protected me, but I could only watch helplessly as Susu was brutalized and overpowered..."

"Susu was killed trying to save me! I'm the one who got her killed... Host, does Susu blame me? Is that why she's been by my side, scaring me...?"

Shen Zhiyao shook her head slowly, a scrutinizing look in her eyes. "You're lying. I'll give you one more chance. Is that what really happened?"

"This..."

Wu Ai Wo Fu's eyes darted away for a second before he stared straight at Shen Zhiyao again. "You... You streamer... are you crazy?! Who's lying? Do you think I have nothing better to do than lie to you?!"

Wu Ai Wo Fu raised his hand to end the call, but Shen Zhiyao cut in sharply, "In three days, when your wife's yin energy peaks, that will be the day you die."

"Th... That's just fearmongering! Stop spouting nonsense!"

Before the video cut out, the last thing Shen Zhiyao heard was the displeased voice of his current wife: "What the fuck, are you crazy?! Actually calling one of these charlatans! Don't you know these streams are all scams to get your money? And you actually believe this shit!"

Finally, the video feed cut off.

But the viewers in the stream were left wanting more.

[Don't leave us hanging! WAHHH... Susu is so pitiful. Wu Ai Wo Fu, come back! I want to know what happens next!]

[His first wife was so good! Why did he get remarried after she died? From what I can see, his current wife is nowhere near as good as his first!]

[To the person above, you can't just praise one and put down the other! The first wife was good, but you can't just dismiss everything the current wife has done for him!]

[Host, why did you say Wu Ai Wo Fu was lying? You must have noticed something was off. Tell us, or I'll report you for being a fraud.]

[Okay, I admit it, you got me hooked. But I'm also curious about what happened to Susu.]

Shen Zhiyao took another sip of water and said, "'Wu Ai Wo Fu' will be back for me. If you want to see what happens next, give me a follow."

[HAHAHA, I knew it was all staged. How else would you know Wu Ai Wo Fu will be back? Host, you really know how to play your audience.]

[Didn't you see Wu Ai Wo Fu's guilty and terrified expression? How could an act be that realistic? Anyway, I believe the host.]

[Followed. Camping for the follow-up.]

[I don't care if it's staged or not. I've got trash taste, and I live for this kind of drama. Followed the host!]

[Doesn't the host have one more reading for today? Pick me, pick me, I want a reading!]

[Host, look at me! I was here first, do my reading first!]

[Why should you go first?! Do mine!]

...

The two consecutive video-call readings had been very effective. For the upcoming third reading, people were already starting to fight for the spot.
