Laura Lowell picked up the red velvet box and stared at the pigeon's-egg diamond necklace inside. She still found it hard to believe that Zachary Redgrave had given both her and Hannah Hale such valuable gifts.
'He's way too good of a guy best friend.'
In the parlor, relatives and friends had already started a game of mahjong, and lively laughter drifted out from time to time. Maeve Miller had the staff prepare some fruit and snacks to be sent over.
Coming out of the parlor, Maeve Miller went into the living room. "Laura, come upstairs with me for a moment. I have something to talk to you about."
"Okay, I'll be right there."
Laura Lowell stood up from the sofa, necklace box and phone in hand. "You all go ahead and have fun. I'll be back in a little while."
"Go on, don't worry about us."
Hannah Hale pulled a tissue from the box on the coffee table and wiped her hands. "I'm going to make some coffee. Does anyone want any?"
