Laura Lowell picked up the bowl and forced down a few more sips of congee. 'I can't believe myself,' she thought. 'How did I get so nervous?'

"Mom, Aiden said they're about to head over."
Maeve Miller cleared the dishes from the table. "Have Hannah Hale and Peach help you put on your wedding dress. I'll go downstairs and let your father know."
"You can leave this to us, Auntie. Go on, we've got it."
