Jessie turned her head away, looking for all the world like an ostrich burying its head in the sand.
Seeing this, Victor Morgan couldn't help but laugh to himself.
"So, you can't hold your liquor. Don't drink when you're out unless you have someone with you," Victor Morgan said.
He'd gone in a huge circle just to say this.
Jessie Sterling initially felt Victor Morgan was being nosy. But compared to him holding that slap she'd given him the other night over her head, telling her not to drink now seemed like no big deal.
She didn't say anything, feigning agreement.
'If Victor catches me drinking out again later,' Jessie thought, 'I can justifiably claim I never actually agreed to it.'
At that thought, she couldn't help but give herself a mental pat on the back. 'I'm such a genius!'
The singer on stage sang with a gentle, captivating voice, and many patrons below began to hum along softly. The fireplace was blazing merrily, and the entire bar had a lazy, romantic atmosphere.
