The open-plan cafeteria practically merged into the main hall. Since most apprentices didn't eat here, the three of them easily found a place to sit.
Alek wasn't quite sure if the thing in his hands was actually bread. When he took a light bite, he discovered the food was impossibly fragrant and soft. A pleasant, wheaty aroma from the baking instantly filled his mouth. Then, the savory and sweet flavors from the sauce, ham, and vegetables surged from the tip of his tongue to the back of his throat, completely overwhelming his mind and body.
For some reason, he felt like crying. The more he ate, the more his nose tingled, and the more it tingled, the faster he ate.
